A new Lotus Lambda SUV is coming soon, as per the reports
KUALA LUMPUR: For many years, rumours have been circulating about the new SUV from the British automaker, Lotus, which is now owned by Geely. And, recently, a Dutch publication named Autoweek, reported its soon arrival. According to it, the SUV will be called Lambda to be based on well known Volvo technology.
Two important things noted here are - first, this would be the first Lotus model whose name does not start with ’E’, although, Hyundai already has a model with the same moniker, thus making it unlikely. Secondly, the Volvo technology mentioned in the report is the modular SPA architecture that already underpins the Volvo XC60, Volvo XC90, and Polestar 1. The SUV is assumed to enter the production in Wuhan, China, before the end of this year.
The Lambda has been in the process for five years; the patent drawing images shown here were leaked online three years ago. These were believed to be the real deal; however, Lotus has never confirmed their authenticity. Later in 2019, the Lambda prototype was first spotted with a camouflaged Lynk & Co 01 body, another Geely-owned brand.
In 2017, the former Lotus CEO, Jean-Marc Gales has been quoted that, "It will be lower, wider, a lot lighter and much better handling than existing SUVs or crossovers.”
Lotus Lambda is supposed to be 4.9 metres long, 2 metres wide, and 1.60 metres high SUV; such dimensions make it comparable to the models like the Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
About the mechanical specs, nothing has been confirmed but the market speculates a wide range of turbocharged four-cylinder engines, along with a plug-in hybrid and a fully electric version. Some other reports cited that the electric Lambda would have a high-performance configuration with a dual-motor system, with AWD and no less than 750 horsepower and a torque of 1,140 Nm. With an estimated range of 359 miles, the acceleration time from zero to 100 kmph is quoted around 3 seconds.
If these reports are to be believed, the all-new Lotus Lambda will be rolling off the production line soon.
