5-door Suzuki Jimny to arrive in 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: The Suzuki Jimny is one car that has generated a lot of hype in recent times. The 4x4 SUV is said to have a solid underpinning along with a strong lineage. Also, the 3-door Gypsy’s original fan base is another factor adding up to the new model’s awaiting. While the three-door version is capable, it’s the longer wheelbase five-door version that is set to debut in most parts of the world.

The Suzuki Jimny was always thought of as a 3-door SUV, and a 5-door version is entirely a new concept. Out of all the Southeast Asian markets, India might be the first to receive the 5-door version of the Jimpny, followed by the rest. However, we don’t have any idea as to what the 5-door version would look like. Only a few render images on the internet gives us a fair idea about the car’s perspective exterior profile.

We want to add that not many are a fan of the 5-door Jimny. The only USP of the SUV is its compact dimensions that’ll be helpful when the going gets tough. If only Suzuki offers the 5-door Jimny with the same capabilities as the original model, it might form a grip in the market.

Meanwhile, the 5-door SUV decides to greet us, a UK based company by the name Shropshire Quads is busy converting the previous-gen Gypsy into pickup trucks. The final product looks nice as it holds on to the old Jimny’s charm. Also, Suzuki showcased the Sierra pickup - a pickup version of Jimny at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon.

The new Suzuki Jimny SUV is expected to arrive in 2021, so it’ll be a long wait. The 5-door version is most likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol powertrain making 102 PS and 130 Nm of torque. The mill is said to be paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. As for now, all the details are under wrap, but we hope that Suzuki keeps the standout features from the original 3-door model intact.
