5-door Suzuki Jimny launched in Indonesia; Malaysia next?

KUALA LUMPUR: After the Philippines and Singapore, the 5-door iteration of the Suzuki Jimmy has now made its way to the Indonesian market. The automaker launched the 5-door off-road SUV at the ongoing Indonesia International Motor Show. It is offered in four variants at a price starting from IDR 462 mil (approximately equal to RM 141k). 

Compared to the 3-door model in Malaysia, the 5-door Suzuki Jimny offers increased practicality with two extra doors. It measures 3,820 mm long, 1,645 mm wide, and 1,720 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,590 mm. The five-door variant is not only 505 mm longer than its three-door counterpart but also boasts a 340 mm longer wheelbase. 

This longer wheelbase enhances the luggage area, thanks to a lower floor height and greater depth. The improved cargo space offers a capacity of 211 litres, which can be expanded up to 1,131 litres.

In terms of design, the SUV with additional doors retains the same boxy styling as the 3-door model. The key highlights include a flat clamshell bonnet, a five-slot chrome grille, round LED projector headlamps with manual-levelling and washer, fog lamps, a high-mount stop lamp, black-painted outside mirrors (electronically adjustable and foldable), scratch-resistant bumper with wheel arch extension and 15-inch dark-metallic grey alloy wheels.

Built on a sturdy ladder-frame chassis, the 5-door Jimny is powered by the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine available with the 3-door model. The said engine produces a maximum power of 105 PS and a peak torque of 130 Nm of torque. Transmission choices include - 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic.

Also part of the kit is Suzuki's AllGrip Pro 4WD system offering the following configurations - 

• 2H: For driving at normal speeds on roads (asphalt/gravel).
• 4H: For off-road driving.
• 4H: For navigating rough rocks, mud, and more challenging terrain

The cabin is crafted with premium materials and advanced technology, including a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a multi-info driver display, a four-speaker sound system, and an automatic air-conditioning system.

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door is available in several colour options in Indonesia, including 

• Dual-tone - Metallic Sizzling Red + Pearl Bluish Black, Kinetic Yellow + Pearl Bluish Black, and Metallic Chiffon Ivory + Pearl Bluish Black
• Single-tone - Granite Gray Metallic, Pearl Bluish Black, and Jungle Green

The variant-wise pricing is as follows - 

5-door Suzuki Jimny MT	IDR 462 million (approx RM 141k)
5-door Suzuki Jimny MT Dual-tone	IDR 465 million (approx RM 142k)
5-door Suzuki Jimny AT	IDR 475.6 million (approx RM 145k)
5-door Suzuki Jimny AT Dual-tone	IDR 478.6 million (approx RM 146k)

While official confirmation is yet to come, Malaysia is anticipated to be among the next ASEAN markets to welcome the arrival of the 5-door Suzuki Jimny.
