3.0L TDI V6 Engines Contain Defeat Devices, Confirm Volkswagen & Audi Officials
Kuala Lumpur: United States Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has received a confirmation from Volkswagen and Audi officials that that their 3.0L TDI V6 engine contains diesel emissions cheat/defeat devices. Earlier, the parent company - Volkswagen AG had denied this allegation after receiving a second notice of violation (NOV) of the Clean Air Act (CAA) by United States EPA.
After the revelation from Volkswagen and Audi, EPA will now investigate all Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi models, sold in the US, fitted with the 3.0L TDI V6 engine. The investigation will affect around 85,000 vehicles from model years 2009 through 2016. However, for Audi, only the Q7 SUV from the model year 2009 to 2012 will be affected, with other marques expected to reveal their affected models soon.

The United States Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) have stated that regulators will continue the investigation and will take appropriate action.
Volkswagen 'Diesel Scandal' or 'Dieselgate' also includes the brand's 1.2L TDI, 1.6L TDI and 2.0L TDI diesel engines with around 11 million car to be affected the 'diesel emissions cheating/defeat devices' that activate the pollution-control equipment to limit nitrogen oxide emissions at allowed levels during the emissions test. Once the emissions test is over, the 'diesel emissions cheating/defeat devices' automatically deactivate the pollution-control equipment and the vehicles keep on emitting more levels of nitrogen oxide than they are certified to be.
