KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly six years after its debut, Proton has unveiled a significant facelift for the popular X70. This long-awaited update brings a fresh look and new features, making the SUV even more appealing and desirable.

Exterior
The 2025 Proton X70 showcases a refreshed exterior design that highlights its modern and dynamic appeal. The upgraded model introduces a new and bolder front grille housing the brand’s Infinite Weave design and diamond-like studs. On the edges of the grille lie the new slimmer full-LED headlights enhancing the SUV’s aggressive stance. Also part of the update is a restyled front bumper, new hood, and new front fenders.
At the rear, the SUV retains its familiar tail lights but now features a revised bumper with horizontal reflectors and faux air outlets, giving it a distinctive look.
The new X70 also benefits from the new 19-inch alloy wheels, which are exclusive to the Premium and Premium X trims. The Standard trim comes with 17-inch wheels, while the Executive trim features 18-inch units.
Interior
The cabin boasts a number of cosmetic and tech enhancements, adding to the luxury and functionality. The key updates include -

- Nappa leather seats in a stone grey colour (with Premium trims)

- New steering wheel with a speed limiter
- LCD metre combination with a new display
- New 12.3-inch infotainment unit supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity

Notably, the new infotainment unit is powered by Atlas 2.0 and features upgraded hardware, including dual quad-core processors, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It supports the “Hi Proton” voice command system that can control the IHU, windows, and air conditioning. The automaker has upgraded the Proton Link app with the capability to start the engine remotely, allowing users to cool down the vehicle before entry.
Depending on the variant chosen, the SUV comes equipped with a remote engine start, a powered driver seat, powered front passenger seats, and a Panoramic sunroof.
Engine
All the variants of the 2025 Proton X70 are powered by an improved 1.5-litre turbocharged TGDi three-cylinder engine that kicks out a maximum power of 177 PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 255 Nm between 1,500 - 4,000 rpm. Sending power to the front wheels is a revised seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
As per the automaker, the improved mechanical setup promises better combustion efficiency, improved thermal management, reduced friction and low-speed noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). The fuel consumption is estimated at 7.3 litres per 100 km, which represents a 4% reduction over the previous model.
Safety
Proton has also improved the safety quotient of the new X70 by adding new systems to the ADAS pack (available only for Premium trims). These include - traffic sign recognition, an updated adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go function, and lane centering assist.
The continuing list comprises Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Information System, Door Opening Warning, and Intelligent High Beam Control.
Colours
The 2025 Proton X70 colour palette comprises - Marine Blue (New), Snow White, Ruby Red, Armour Silver, and Jet Grey.
