2025 Proton X70 facelift gets a second official launch in East Malaysia, marks significance of the region, from RM101k

KUALA LUMPUR: Following its successful debut in Peninsular Malaysia, Proton has now launched the 2025 Proton X70 facelift in Sabah. This refreshed version of Proton’s pioneering SUV, which originally launched in 2018, now brings significant updates to enhance its design, technology, and overall competitiveness.

For the first time, Proton has decided to give the Proton X70 an official launch in East Malaysia, highlighting the growing significance of this region in their strategic plans. East Malaysia is a critical market for Proton according to Dr Li Chunrong, Proton's Chief Executive Officer.

Proton sales in East Malaysia has grown at a very fast pace. It has grown by 98 per cent in Sarawak and 214 per cent in Sabah from the period of 2018 and 2024. The Proton Saga is also Sabah's best selling vehicle in 2021 and 2023 but Proton are confident they can once again reach that high soon, as to date, the Proton Saga has sold 1,000 units in Sabah. The recent launch of the East Malaysia regional parts centre will support this growth.

Despite the updates to the Proton X70, which according to Proton is valued above RM13k, including a refreshed exterior, headlights, and enhanced interior features, Proton Cars has made the strategic decision to keep the pricing in line with that of the outgoing model in Peninsular Malaysia. In East Malaysia the pricing of the Proton X70 also remains the same and the pricing structure is as follows:

• Standard - RM100,800
• Executive - RM112,800 
• Premium - RM125,800
• Premium X -RM128,800

Key Highlights:

• New Features: The facelift introduces a bold new grille, upgraded LED headlights, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, refreshed interior features, and enhanced ADAS Level 2 safety technology.
• Launch Offers: Early bird promotions include a RM7,000 cash rebate, RM2,800 trade-in overtrade support, and upgraded Proton insurance for the first 3,000 customers in Sabah.

Exterior and Interior Updates: The 2025 X70 facelift features a new Infinite Weave grille, slimmed-down LED headlights, and a redesigned bumper, giving the SUV a more aggressive stance. The rear bumper and new two-tone alloy wheels further enhance its dynamic appearance. Inside, luxury touches like Stone Grey Nappa leather seats and a redesigned dashboard with 72-colour ambient lighting elevate the cabin’s comfort and style. The new 12.3-inch infotainment screen, powered by the Atlas 2.0 system, includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, available via a free OTA update post-launch.

Safety and Performance: The upgraded ADAS Level 2 system now offers advanced features like stop-and-go adaptive cruise control and lane centering assist, available on the Premium and Premium X variants. The SUV retains its 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, delivering 177 PS and 255 Nm of torque, paired with an updated seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Fuel efficiency has been improved by 4%, now rated at 7.3 litres/100 km.

Booking: Proton is accepting orders for the 2025 X70 in Sabah, with a RM500 deposit securing a reservation. This facelift, featuring over 360 new components, reaffirms Proton’s commitment to delivering a stylish, technologically advanced, and high-performing SUV to the market.
