KUALA LUMPUR: The Mazda CX-80 made a striking debut in Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2024, generating quite a buzz among local enthusiasts. While this big Mazda SUV is expected to hit the local shores this year, Indonesia has taken the lead in welcoming it.

The Mazda CX-80 retails for IDR 1,199,900,000 in Indonesia, which is approximately equal to RM 326k.PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia (EMI), the official distributor of Mazda cars in Indonesia, offers the seven-seater SUV at a price starting from IDR 1,199,900,000 (approx. RM 326k).
The Mazda CX-80 is a part of the brand’s new ‘Large Product Group’ SUVs and rivals the premium three-row SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, and Hyundai Santa Fe. It underpins the Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture and features a front-engine longitudinal layout and rear-wheel drive.

Drivetrain
Just like the SUV previewed in Malaysia, the Indonesia-spec CX-80 is powered by a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, comprising a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four and an electric motor. The former churns out a maximum power of 192 PS and a peak torque of 261 Nm while the latter is tuned to make 175 PS and 270 Nm. The total system output is rated at 328 PS and 500 Nm.

Also part of the PHEV setup is an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels via the i-ACTIV all-wheel drive system. Feeding the motor is a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, which offers an all-electric range of 59 km.
The Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) comprises four selectable modes -

- Sport: Delivers more dynamic and aggressive responses
- Off-road: Facilitates navigation on challenging terrains
