2024 Volkswagen Passat wagon debuts in Europe with plug-in hybrid tech
KUALA LUMPUR: While Volkswagen has discontinued the Passat in several markets, including Malaysia, the brand’s highly popular nameplate is still alive in Europe. The old continent has just received the all-new ninth-generation Volkswagen Passat that will be sold only in a single style i.e. wagon.

- Based on the new modular transverse matrix platform (MQB evo), the ninth-generation Passat measures 4917 mm in length, 1852 mm in width, and 1482 mm in height. The wheelbase is measured at 2841 mm
- In terms of design, the German wagon boasts an aerodynamic design with a sharp shoulder line, matrix LED headlights, and an LED tail light with 3D elements
- With the R-Line sports package comes aggressive bumpers and 19-inch alloy wheels
- The interior of the new Passat gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a new 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, satellite navigation, and a Car2X system
- The cockpit is also equipped with newly developed ergoActive Plus seats with 14-way electrical adjustment and pneumatic 10-chamber pressure point massage function for high travel comfort
- Further adding to the comfort is the availability of generous space, effective noise insulation, and optional adaptive chassis control DCC Pro
- Also part of the kit are - a head-up display, three-zone climate control, 45-watt USB-C charging ports, keyless entry and start, and ambient interior lighting
- The new Passat also ensures a safe drive with several advanced driving assistance systems on board. - The engine lineup of the next-gen Passat comprises three petrol mills - a 1.5-litre turbocharged FWD with 110 kW, a 2.0-litre turbo FWD with 150 kW, and a 2.0-litre turbo AWD with 195 kW
- The diesel engines include - a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel FWD with 90 kW, a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel FWD with 110 kW, and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel AWD with 142 kW
- A pair of plug-in hybrids combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, electric motor, and a 19.7kWh battery are also available which offer an electric driving range of up to 100 km
