Platform
The all-new Tacoma is built on the automaker’s global truck platform known as TNGA-F which it shares with the Sequoia and Tundra. In its new form, the vehicle features a new high-strength boxed and a steel ladder frame.
Design
Kevin Hunter, president, of CALTY Design Research on Tacoma’s design detailing said, “Our primary design goal for the all-new Tacoma was to be authentic to the way our customers use their trucks for rugged outdoor fun.”
He further explained, “We looked at our truck DNA and the Toyota Baja race trucks for inspiration to capture the extreme spirit of off-road adventure. High lift, big tires, slim body, and a powerful athletic stance define the iconic Tacoma look, referred to as ‘Tacoma-ness’.”
Some of the inclusions include a wide upper grille, aggressive skid plates, high-mount headlamps, side functional air intakes, hexagonal grille motif, and integrated roof and tailgate spoilers.

Each grade of Tacoma comes with specific suspensions. For instance,
- TRD Sport gets red TRD sport-tuned shocks
- TRD Off-Road grade is equipped with monotube Bilstein remote reservoir shocks
- TRD PRO is fitted with FOX’s new QS3 three-way adjustable internal bypass shocks with remote reservoirs

Powertrain
The Toyota Tacoma is offered in two powertrain options, both utilizing a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit.
The said engine in the base SR grades generates a max power of 228 hp along with a peak torque of 329 Nm. In all the other trim options, the output hikes to 278 hp and 429 Nm.
As for the hybrid models, the 2.4-litre mill is paired with a 48-hp electric motor that feeds off a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack. The total system output reads 326 hp and 630 Nm.
