2024 Toyota Crown Sport SUV debuts In Japan with a hybrid mill

KUALA LUMPUR: In July this year, Toyota introduced the Crown nameplate representing its new series of models, which include four body styles – Crossover, Sport, Sedan, and Estate. Back then, the Japanese automaker unveiled the high-riding crossover version of the Crown and now it has launched the Crown Sport, which is a five-seater SUV. It is offered in a sole Sport Z trim in Japan, priced at JPY 5,900,000 (approx RM 187k).

Let’s know the key highlights of the 2024 Toyota Crown Sport SUV - 

• Toyota’s new SUV sports a “hammerhead shark look” with a double-layered nose integrating a sharp-looking bar spanning the car’s width and C-shaped LED daytime running lights. The main headlamp units are positioned on the bumper

• Towards the rear, the SUV gets connected tail-lamp units, a high-set bumper with sharp creases, and a faux skid plate 
• The new Toyota Crown Sport measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,565 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,700 mm 

• Like the Crossover, the Sport model also comes fitted with 21-inch tires and aluminium wheels
• The exterior colour palette includes 6 monotone and 5 bi-tone options to choose from
• Inside, the new Toyota SUV exudes a premium appeal with wood, leather and piano black finishes, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a high-definition 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit

• Part of the vehicle’s safety pack are Proactive Driving Assist, Toyota Teammate Advanced Drive, Advanced Park, Blind Spot Monitor, Panoramic View Monitor, and Safe Exit Assist
• Powering the Japan-spec Toyota Crown Sport is a 2.5-litre Series Parallel Hybrid engine that promises an “improved responsiveness at low speeds and direct acceleration at medium and high speeds through effective utilisation of electrical energy, and offers better fuel economy and quietness,” claims Toyota
• The automaker will introduce a 2.5-litre Plug-in Hybrid drivetrain at a later stage

Toyota currently produces the Crown Sport SUV in Japan at its Tsutsumi plant, with a monthly production capacity of 700 units. While the initial availability is limited to Japan, the SUV is expected to enter into other markets in the near future.
