2024 Mazda CX-90 teased; debut confirmed for Jan 31

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda has been teasing the CX-90 SUV for a while now and the automaker has done it yet again, most probably for the last time as the car is scheduled to debut on 31st January 2023.

Once launched, the CX-90 will join the automaker's Large Product group which already includes the likes of the CX-60, CX-70, and CX-80.

What do we know about the upcoming Mazda CX-90?

Back in November 2022 when the Mazda SUV was first teased, the car was revealed to be powered by an inline-six engine with no more info shared. However, now we know that the US-spec model will feature a 3.3-liter six-cylinder turbo petrol unit with a 48-volt hybrid system. The total output figure rests at 345 PS and 500 Nm of torque.

The said e-Skyactiv G powertrain also powers the ongoing CX-60 wherein it delivers a max power of 284 PS and 450 Nm. The noticeable difference between the CX-60 and the upcoming CX-90 output is most likely due to the latter being the brand’s largest model. Also, in a select few markets, the CX-90 will be replacing the CX-9.

Also, in the future, the CX-90 lineup will be offered with a plug-in hybrid variant. Though no specifications revealed, the PHEV trim will share its specs with the CX-60 PHEV powertrain setup. So, a Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine along with an electric motor powered by a 17.8 kWh battery. The said setup makes a total output of 327 PS and 500 Nm. The drivetrain setup also includes an 8-speed automatic transmission and i-Activ all-wheel drive system.
