2023 Peugeot e-2008: What to expect?

Bermaz Auto Alliance took over the stewardship of the Peugeot brand in 2020, which was previously taken care of by Naza in our market. The new caretaker launched the two CKD SUVs - 3008 and 5008 in 2021, followed by the locally-assembled 2008 earlier this year. Well, next on the Peugeot Malaysia upcoming list is assumed to be the electric counterpart of the latter, the all-new Peugeot e-2008.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will the Peugeot e-2008 launch in Malaysia?

Peugeot Malaysia is expected to launch the Peugeot e-2008 EV in the fourth quarter of 2022.
  • What is the driving range of the Peugeot e-2008?

Equipped with a 50-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Peugeot e-2008 can run for 345 kilometres on a single charge.
  • According to the reports, the automaker is set to launch the electric SUV in Malaysia in the fourth quarter of 2022. So, what we can expect from the upcoming Peugeot EV, let’s check out.

    Exterior

In terms of exterior design, the upcoming Peugeot e-2008 looks almost the same as the petrol-powered model with some exclusive styling cues. It has an edgy styling featuring an upright six-point grille and high-mounted headlights with the brand’s signature “triple-claw” LED daytime running lights.

The grille is exclusively sprayed with the body colour on the EV. The dichroic Lion emblem mounted on it appears green or blue, depending on the viewing angle. Further confirming the identity of the electric Peugeot are ‘e’ badges positioned on the side panel and boot lid.

The design bits shared with the petrol-powered model include a contrasting black roof, LED tail lights with a “triple claw” graphic, twin tailpipes, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

    Interior

The zero-emission version of the Peugeot 2008 is expected to be sci-fi with Peugeot’s i-Cockpit technology, utilising hologram tech to create an avant-garde head-up display. The EV is likely to offer the following creature comforts -

    • 10-inch freestanding infotainment touchscreen with a voice control system
    • Advanced navigation with real-time traffic information
    • 10-speaker Focal sound system
    • MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity
    • Keyless entry and engine start
    • Single-zone climate control
    • Ambient lighting
    • Wireless smartphone charging pad
    • Electronic parking brake
    • Soft-touch plastics and Alcantara and Nappa leather upholstery options
    • Plenty of fake carbon fibre trimmings

    Drivetrain, range, and charging

Under the shiny skin of the upcoming Peugeot e-2008 lies a combination of an electric motor and a battery pack in place of the internal combustion engine. The electric combo includes a 50-kWh lithium-ion battery and a motor dishing out a maximum power of 130 hp and a peak torque of 260 Nm.

Also part of the setup is Brake mode which enhances kinetic energy recovery, slowing the vehicle down as soon as the driver lifts off the throttle.

The WLTP-claimed driving range of the EV was initially rated at 310 km, which was later on increased to 345 km with the help of a better gearbox ratio, a new heat pump, and Class A+ low rolling resistance tyres.

Moving to the Peugeot e-2008 charging, the EV’s battery takes around 16 hours for charging with a domestic 230-volt socket, which, however, reduces to 8 hours upon utilising a 7.4-kW single-phase wall box. The charging time can be further reduced to almost five hours with an 11-kW three-phase socket.

Cannot wait that long? No worries, the upcoming electric Peugeot also supports up to 100-kW DC fast charging, which provides 80% state-of-charge with just a pit stop of 30 minutes.

    Safety

As for safety, the automaker offers a whole lot of active and passive safety gears with the EV in the global market, ensuring the safety of passengers and the people around the vehicle. The Malaysian-spec Peugeot e-2008 is likely to mimic the global version in terms of safety with the following key inclusions -

    • Six airbags
    • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function
    • Lane positioning assist
    • Autonomous emergency braking
    • Active lane keeping assist
    • Full park assist
    • Blind spot monitoring
    • Traffic sign recognition
    • Auto high beam
    • Active safety brake
    • ABS with EBD and BA
    • Dynamic stability Control
    • Anti-skid regulation
    • Hill start assist
    • Tyre pressure monitoring system
    • ISOFIX

    Price

The Peugeot e-2008 price in the UK starts at GBP 33,230 which is approximately equal to RM 171,837. The pricing for Malaysia is not yet clear on account of several factors including the vehicle’s transfer price. However, local customers can enjoy 100% road tax exemption and 100% duty exemption currently available for battery-powered electric vehicles in the country.
