2022 Toyota Veloz MPV now on sale in Thailand
KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota opened the bookings of the 2022 Veloz in the Thai market earlier this month and now it has finally launched the MPV in the country. Succeeding the long-running Avanza, the new Toyota Veloz gets a more upmarket recipe and is on offer in two versions - Smart and Premium, fully imported from Indonesia.

It comes with LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, silver chrome trims, rear spoiler, and shark fin antenna.
Inside, the standard features list includes an 8.0-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charger, electric parking brake, electric power steering, automatic air conditioning system, and Fabric and leatherette combination seats.
The 2022 Toyota Veloz Premium differentiates itself from the base model with 17-inch dual-tone alloys and darker chromium trims across the front grille, front fog lights, and roof rails. Inside it, we can find a bigger 8.0-inch infotainment unit. It retails for THB 875,000 (RM 112,763).
The new Veloz underpins a unibody Daihatsu New Global Architecture platform that brings onboard a front-wheel-drive replacing the rear-wheel-drive available with the predecessor.
Both trims are powered by a 1.5-litre, Dual VVT-i, 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine producing a maximum power output of 105 PS and a peak torque of 136 Nm. It is mated to a D-CVT automatic transmission instead of the conventional 4-speed automatic.
As for safety, Toyota has packed the MPV with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, a reverse camera, blind-spot monitoring system, and rear cross-traffic alert. With the Premium trims, the Toyota Safety Sense is also on offer with features like a pre-collision system, front departure alert, lane departure assist, automatic high beam, and pedal misoperation control. Also part of the kit is a 360-degree panoramic view monitor.
Information as to when the new Avanza/Veloz will be available in Malaysia is not yet available.
