    2022 Proton X70 Engine specifications

As mentioned earlier, the X70 gets a new powertrain setup for 2022. This new unit is a 1.5-litre TGDi petrol mill borrowed from the X50 Flagship; however, it gets a new NVH-optimised foam-based engine cover for reduced noise levels.

The motor generates a maximum power output of 177 hp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 255 Nm between 1,500 - 4,000 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, enabling the SUV to hit the century sprint in 9.8 seconds.

Along with this new setup, the earlier 1.8-litre turbocharged inline-four engine is also on offer with the top-spec model, which makes 184 hp and 300 Nm.

As we can see, the power numbers of the new engine are less than the 1.8 TGDi, so what’s the point of downsizing? Well, Proton explains that switching to the new mill is due to better fuel consumption while maintaining similar performance levels. The new powertrain weighs 43 kg less, thus offering a 7% improvement in terms of fuel economy and takes 0.3 seconds less time in hitting the century sprint.

    2022 Proton X70 Exterior

In terms of visual changes, the SUV gets a few revisions, including new multi-spoke 19-inch alloys (borrowed from the 2022 X70 SE model) for the Premium trims and new 18- inch units for the Executive. Also new for 2022 is a gloss black finish on the front grille, front fog lights, rear trim piece, and diffuser.

Depending on the variant, the 2022 Proton X70 continues to feature the same LED headlights with DRLs, LED rear combination tail lights, LED front fog lamps with cornering light function, front welcome lamps, auto rain sensing wipers, power-folding door mirrors, and Panoramic sunroof.

    2022 Proton X70 Interior

Inside the new X70, you will get only a small cosmetic upgrade, i.e. a new black headliner in place of the beige one. Other variant-specific highlights remain identical, which include -

    • 7.0-inch digital instrument display
    • 8.0-inch infotainment unit with “Hey Proton” voice assistant, online music streaming, navigation, and smartphone connectivity
