Mitsubishi will unveil the new Outlander PHEV this year

KUALA LUMPUR: Back in February, Mitsubishi introduced the new fourth-generation Outlander SUV and now it is ready to unveil its electrified derivative. The automaker recently unveiled the teaser images of the upcoming Outlander PHEV, which is set to make its global debut this year in Japan. That means, other countries will be getting the PHEV later in 2022 or 2023.

While details on the new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV are scarce at the moment, the teaser revealed PHEV badges positioned on the SUV’s front fender and the boot lid. The charging port on the rear right side of the SUV is also shown. As per that, we can expect that the upcoming model will almost look like the ICE-powered version with a few details to mark its unique identity. 

The ICE-powered Outlander measures 4680 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, and 1747 mm in height. It features a new ‘Dynamic Front Shield’ face with a new grille and split headlight design. At the back, horizontal T-shaped tail lights emphasize the car’s width. 

Inside, it boasts three-row seating with room for seven passengers, a 12.3-inch instrument panel, heads-up display, a 9-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay support, navigation, and a 10-speaker Bose audio system. As for safety, it is packed with 11 airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and many other features. 

We hope to see all these creature comforts on the new Outlander plug-in hybrid along with three-row seating. Mitsubishi confirmed that the EV is based on the new architecture that freed up space in the rear for the third row of seats. 

Under the bonnet, the upcoming Outlander PHEV is likely to get a two-motor powertrain, derived from the predecessor. However, in terms of output, it will be more powerful and offer a greater range and better fuel efficiency, as confirmed by Mitsubishi.
