2022 Mazda CX-60: 5 things no one told you

The Mazda CX-60 made its global debut in early March and since then it has been the talk of the town. At the moment the car is on sale in several European countries, Japan, and is open for bookings in Australia. As for its arrival in the ASEAN region, we aren’t really sure, however, if Thailand gets it, our chances will become strong.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will the new CX-60 arrive in Malaysia?

No official word has been shared by thecompany yet, however, we are not expecting its arrival anytime soon.
  • Is the CX-60 a premium car?

The Japanese automaker’s latest CX-60 is a range-topping SUV with several top-class comforting features.
  • Until that happens, let’s get to know the Japanese automaker’s latest new range-topping SUV in a not too ordinary way. By skipping the common information, we here are focusing on its unique traits. So, let’s get started -

2022 Mazda CX-60: 5 things no one told you

Inspired by the dry garden of Japan

The dry garden represents Japan’s traditional beauty which expresses the ‘beauty of subtraction’. Despite their simplicity, they hold a lot of elegance and thrive in harmony with nature. Similarly, the CX-60 showcases a delicate yet powerful stance. Unlike the SUVs of its stature, it does not control its surroundings.

Rather than getting enveloped in various design elements, its design method emphasises ‘bold transition of light’. Meaning it uses light and reflection from the surroundings to look like a piece of art.

In a way, the CX-60 tries to add colours to its owner's life, making it rich and intelligent.

Use of traditional Japanese weaving & patterns

Mazda believes that a car should be a place of upliftment, enrichment, calm, and peace. With this philosophy in mind, the CX-60’s cabin is designed to be spacious and wrapped in high-quality materials. Furthermore, the interior space adopts the principle of ‘ma’ that captures the outside by selecting materials and coordinating the light & shadow in the daytime along with the change in light as per the season.

The Japan-spec model is offered in two variants - ‘Premium Modern’ and ‘Premium Sport’. While the former combines comfortable space with functionality and beauty (showcases traditional Japanese textiles and weaving threads with random patterns & expressions), the latter reflects a more intelligent and dignified space (tow-tone, tan-black cabin with active use of suede for a rich feel).

    Suspension development by a racer

Okuyama, a racer and an active visitor in Gymkhana, handled the CX-60 suspension development. He was also responsible for the Roadster’s suspension design. His emphasis was to build a car that offers a sense of unity at all times.

For this purpose, a new double-wishbone suspension and multi-link suspensions were devised. They not only respond to the operations in a straightforward manner but also adds to the comfort level.

In Okuyama’s words, “We have minimised the unnecessary play and delays present in the suspension, which makes it easier for the driver to feel the movement of the car, so those who are good at driving. I think that even people who are not good at driving can enjoy driving more intuitively and with confidence. "

Automatic adjustment of driver’s seat, steering, side mirrors

For Mazda, comfort seems to be very important. So apart from curating a peaceful and calm cabin, it worked hard to offer ‘optimal driving position’ to the driver. Thus making sure the driver is not tired even after driving for a long time and gets a smooth ‘operability’ of steering, brake, and accelerator.

For the same purpose, the automaker developed a driver personalised system that recognised the driver and automatically adjusts the seat, steering, ORVM, and active driving display

When the can stop, the system automatically moves the seat and steering making it easier for the driver to get out.

How does this system work? It automatically calculates and adjusts the optimal driving position for the driver based on his height and eye position. However, the driver can always take the matter into his own hands.

Personalise more than 100 in-car features

Apart from offering an optimal driving position to the driver, the driver personalization system with the help of facial recognition tech can personalise more than 100 in-car features for each driver. For instance, sound system, safety warnings volume, ambient lighting, and more.

In a way, Mazda is trying its best to reduce the driver’s stress even before the drive begins, thus making the person behind the wheels safer, enjoyable and at ease.

Mazda has really gone the extra mile with the CX-60 comfort and design levels. What do you think?
