2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift to be previewed in Japan
KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda revealed the all-new 2022 CX-5 facelift last month. The car in its new version featured a sharp design language and was seen in a brand new exterior splash called Zircon Sand. While Malaysians will have to wait until 2022 (or more) to see the new CX-5 in person, Japan will get to see it first.
2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift public preview is limited to individuals who signed up for the company's free membership service, Club Mazda. Also, the band will be filling up a few spots via raffle. Thus making it a very exclusive event.
Mazda Japan website showcases a teaser image of the car wherein we get to see the horizontally-spaced LED headlights. It is followed by a disclaimer saying the image is based on an 'overseas model', however, the Japanese-spec CX-5 facelift will be more or less similar to the model revealed last month.
The 2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift preview will be held in three Japanese cities. The schedule is as follows -
- Yokohama - 30 to 31st Oct
- Hiroshima - 6 to 7th Nov
- Osaka - 13 to 14th Nov
The selected members can not only view the CX-5 facelift but also experience it first-hand by getting inside the vehicle. It is to be noted that the display unit is a prototype and not a production-spec model.
What to expect from the CX-5 facelift?
Apart from a new sharp design language and new exterior colour, the facelifted model will benefit from an improved suspension that will elevate the car's comfort level by manifold.
On the engine configuration front, the CX-5 facelift is likely to retain the same powertrain as the pre-facelift model that includes -
- A naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre petrol unit making 162 PS/213 Nm
- A naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre petrol mill generating 192 PS/258 Nm
- A turbocharged 2.5-litre petrol powertrain churning 230 PS/420Nm
- A turbocharged 2.2-litre diesel engine popping 173 PS/420 Nm
The engine configuration will depend on the market the car is offered in, for instance in Japan, Mazda will offer all four engines across the CX-5 19 variants.
The ongoing Malaysian-spec model is offered in all four powertrains across five variants, however, we'll have to wait a little longer for the facelift model.
Japan will get the 2022 CX-5 facelift by the end of 2021, as for Malaysia, it is expected to arrive next year. However, stay tuned for updates as the auto market keeps on surprising us.
