Check out the first leaked photos of the 2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda CX-5 is one of the hot-selling compact SUVs in the market. The model’s second generation that has been around since 2016 is now up for a facelift. But, before the official teaser images or clip, here we have the upcoming 2022 Mazda CX-5 in front of us without any camouflage. And, the credit goes to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Korean website Autospy, which posted the CX-5 leaked pictures online. 

So, how the new Mazda CX-5 looks, let’s discuss.

The model we are seeing here is the Chinese-spec CX-5, manufactured by the brand’s partner Changan Mazda. It features mild exterior tweaks including a fresh pair of headlights integrated with C-shaped daytime running lights. The slight revision noticeable on the front grille is a thicker chrome trim. Below the grille, the bumper gets a cleaner stance with wider air intakes and without fog lights and a black strip.

On the rear end also, the design seems pretty similar with a few revisions. The reshaped tail lights are slimmer than earlier, the smaller reflectors are positioned above the exhaust pipes, and are connected by a new black panel. Mazda also restyled the model badge in its latest typeface earlier seen on the CX-30. 

Regarding the interior changes, no details are available at the moment. And if we talk about the mechanical setup, the Japanese website Creative311 claims that the automaker will ditch the  2.5-litre turbo petrol engine in Japan, along with introducing an all-wheel-drive setup for the base 2.0-litre gasoline trim making 155 hp. On the transmission front, a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox is likely to be continued.

The publication also reports that the revamped CX-5 will make its debut in Japan this December as a 2022 model year.
