2022 Mazda CX-3: Buyer’s Guide

Mazda Malaysia’s official distributor, Bermaz Motor has made additions to the CX-3 lineup by introducing two new variants - the 1.5L Core and 2.0L Core. Thus bringing the number of variants down to three.

Let us get to know the new Mazda CX-3 in detail -

Variants & Price

As mentioned the CX-3 lineup now includes two new variants, giving customers three trims to choose from.

The new CX-3 variants surely give customers more affordable choices. Also, the rage-topping 2.0L High model, the new base and mid-spec Core models are also fully imported from Thailand where it is manufactured at Mazda's Rayong situated plant.

Each purchase will be accompanied by a 5-year/100,000 km warranty and free maintenance package.

Powertrain

CX-3 1.5L Core: The base CX-3 is powered by a Skyactiv-1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine generating maximum power of 114 hp at 6,000 rpm and 149 Nm at 4,000 rpm of torque.

CX-3 2.0L Core & 2.0L High: The mid and top-spec CX-3 model settles for a 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G powertrain. The big mill pumps out 154 hp at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 206 Nm at 2,800 rpm.

Both the mills are paired to a Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission that transmits power to the front wheels. Also, the powertrains benefit from idling start/stop tech and Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control which offers smoother & more accurate steering inputs.

All three CX-3 models measure the same, except the range-topping High trim gets bigger 18-inch wheels. Everything else remains the same.

Braking & Handling

A smooth ride is assured by CX-3’s efficient suspension system that includes MacPherson Struts at the front and Torsion Bream at the rear. Taking care of the braking at the front are ventilated discs and solid discs at the rear.

Exterior

Of the three CX-3 variants, the 1.5L Core and 2.0L Core have the most in common. The list includes - halogen headlamps with manual on/off function & levelling, bulb-type LED, bulb-type tail light, intermittent front & rear wipers, Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry, ORVM with power adjustment, folding, & turn indicators, and rear spoiler.

As for the expensive CX-3 2.0L High variant it surely gets some fancy exterior bits like - an LED headlight with signature illumination with auto on/off function & levelling, LED DRLs, LED taillight with signature illumination, LED fog light, rear fog light, rain-sensing windshield wipers, parking sensors (x4), and power sunroof with sliding & tilt glass. Everything else remains the same.

Interior

The Mazda hatchback’s standard feature includes - an engine start/stop button, electronic parking brake, leather steering with audio & Bluetooth hands-free switches & tilt & telescopic adjustment, cruise control, rearview mirror, standard trip computer instrument cluster, driver-side one-touch power window with anti-pinch, sport mode, leather gear shift knob, manual air-control, and front 12-Volt. It gets 6-way manual front seats and4-way manual rear seats.

The top-spec 2.0L High, over and above the standard features get a rearview mirror with auto-dimming, active driving display, paddle shifters, and single-zone auto air-con system.
It also gets a 10-way power-adjustable front seat with two memory functions.

Connectivity

The 2022 CX-3’s infotainment need is taken care of by an 8-inch capacitive touch-screen with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto support, multi-function commander control, AM/FM tuner, Bluetooth hands-free phone & audio capability, six audio speakers, two USB ports, and reverse camera with guidelines.

The 2.0L High model further gets wireless Carplay and 360-degree view monitor and a wireless charger.

The hatch also comes equipped with advanced technologies like Stop/Start Idling function and G-Vectoring Control.

Safety

Both the Core and High variants come with the following safety features - SRS dual airbags, ABS, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Emergency Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control System, Emergency Stop Signal, Hill Launch Assist, Auto Hold Function, Walk Away Lock, ISOFIX, and an engine-immobilizer with an anti-theft system.

The CX-3 High being the top-spec trim comes equipped with several advanced safety techs like High Beam Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning System, Driver Attention Alert, and Smart City Brake Support.

Colour palette

The 2022 CX-3 is offered in several striking hues including Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, Snowflake White Pearl, Polymetal Grey, Jet Black, and Platinum Quartz.
