2022 Hyundai Elantra N detailed for the US market
KUALA LUMPUR: Originally scheduled to make its first public appearance at the now-canceled New York International Auto Show, the all-new Hyundai Elantra N has just made its virtual debut in the US. It is a high-performance variant of the standard Elantra that adds strong, dynamic driving capabilities and aggressive design elements to it. To be specific, it gets more than 40 specialized N elements for enhanced performance.
The new US-spec Hyundai Elantra N is equipped with a 2.0-litre, turbocharged, direct-injected flat-power engine that is capable of generating a maximum power output of 276 hp from 5,500-6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 392 Nm from 2,100 to 4,700 rpm. An N eight-speed wet, dual-clutch transmission (N DCT) is available for sending power to the wheels. Further enhancing the Elantra N performance are:
- N Corner Carving Differential (e-LSD)
- Variable Exhaust Valve System
- Launch Control
- N Grin Shift (NGS)
- N Power Shift (NPS)
- N Track Sense Shift (NTS)
In addition, the sport sedan has a robust braking performance with 14.2-inch brake rotors mated to high-friction pads. It can maintain consistent braking force even in harsh driving conditions. According to Hyundai, the car ensures best-in-class braking performance.
Besides mechanical changes, the Elantra N also boasts design and features updates. Its aggressive front fascia has an N-exclusive red strip at the bottom and a lip spoiler that runs across the lower part of the front bumper. A prominent N-only wing-type spoiler, rear diffuser, and F1-inspired rear light accentuate its sportier style on the back.
The Elantra N exclusive features inside the cabin include a more advanced infotainment system equipped with an N-exclusive graphic interface. It mimics a dynamically moving VR game with a dedicated lap timer. Other significant inclusions are N button driving modes, 10 mm lower N light sport seats with N illumination, and N elements on the steering wheel, shifter, seats, door scuff panels, and metal pedals.
About the Elantra N price and availability in the US market, the South Korean automaker is still numb. However, it is expected to go on sale in the home market by the end of this year.
