2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV & EV: Full Details
Finally, Chevrolet has revealed the much-awaited Bolt twins - the Bolt EUV and Bolt EV. The Bolt was first introduced in late 2016. It was the American automaker’s first EV and now after five strong years of running, the company decided to revamp it completely, literally inside and out.
As mentioned earlier the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt comes in two versions - the EV and the slightly larger EUV. Both the models feature a modern exterior and interior styling along with updated features. They’ll enter the production cycle in the coming months, before going for sale sometime between June - August. What’s even better is that compared to the earlier model, the new Bolt EV is cheaper!
Now let’s get to know each of the Bolt models one by one, starting with the -
2022 Bolt EV
In the Chevrolet Bolt lineup, the Bolt EV comes as the standard/entry-level model. It is priced at $31,995 (approximately RM 129,084).
Design
The new Bolt EV features a striking design that obviously looks modern than the previous model. At the front, it gets an aggressive design that is decorated by a very unique lighting setup that looks all connected. Going from the bonnet to the fender are the sleek day-time running lights followed by turn indicators. Below the turn signals, you’ll find the headlights. The grille is quite different from the predecessor, it gets body-coloured accents instead of black plastic found earlier.
Cabin
The interior looks heavily received as well, we see a fully-digital instrument cluster behind the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel. At the centre of the dashboard is the 10.2-inch touch display above which are the air-con vents and below is a control panel. Features like Apple CarPlay & Android Auto support, wireless charging, and 4G LTE wi-fi hotspot come standard. A new push button-shifter with an optional one-pedal driving button is now part of the centre console.
The seats are revamped too, they now feature a new, more comfortable design and are wrapped in high-quality faux leather with contrasting stitching.
Powerhouse
Things remain the same under the hood. Powering the Bolt EV is a 65 kWh battery that churns out a maximum power of 200 hp and a peak torque of 360 Nm. It offers a range of upto 416 km.
DC fast charging now comes standard, delivering 161 km of range in just 30 minutes. Also, a new cord with an interchangeable plug (120 and 240 volt) comes optional.
Safety
Chevy Safe Assist suite of safety features comes standard. It includes front pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning, and forward collision alert,
2022 Bolt EUV
Priced at $33,995, the Bolt EUV is a brand-new inclusion in the Bolt lineup. This electric crossover looks very similar to the EV version, however, there is a substantial difference in dimensions. Compared to the smaller Bolt EV, the EUV has a 600 mm longer wheelbase.
Design
Like the EV model, this one too holds up an aggressive face. However, the lighting setup is changed, here we don’t see the connection between the upper (DRLs & turn indicator)and lower (headlight) lighting units. The patterns on the grille are also different, however, the body-coloured accents are the same. This one includes a sunroof.
Cabin
The Bolt EUV showcases a stretched wheelbase that on the inside translates into a slightly roomier second row. Likewise, the EUV's rear legroom and cargo space vary slightly compared to the EV model. The navigation system comes as an add-on.
Powerhouse
It is powered by a 65 kWh lithium battery that similar to the EV model makes a maximum power of 200 hp and a peak torque of 360 Nm. It comes with DC fast charging benefits, however, here the cord with interchangeable plug is a standard fitment.
The EUV returns a slightly reduced range of 402 km because it's heavier than the EV model.
Safety
In addition to the Chevy Safety Assist suite of safety features, the Bolt EUV benefits from an optional Super Cruiser active safety system.
