2021 Suzuki Jimny: What to expect?

Suzuki made a comeback in Malaysia with a strong plan of rebuilding the brand in the country and for its execution, it joined hands with Naza Eastern Motors. The new local partner is currently retailing the new Swift Sport and preparing for the launch of the Suzuki Jimny 2021 in Malaysia. Yes, the fourth-generation Jimny, which is hot in demand all over the world, is set to make its debut on the local shores in the second half of 2021. It will be available as a fully imported CBU unit from Japan. 

Although the automaker is still keeping the specs of Malaysia-spec Jimny under the hat, we can take hints from the SUV available in other countries. So, here we bring the 2021 Suzuki Jimny expected specifications, have a look.

Suzuki Jimny Exterior

The Suzuki Jimny features a boxy exterior design as seen on the Mercedes-Benz G-wagon. It exhibits a retro stance with a front five slat grille edged by the round headlamps. The latter is likely to be LED projector units with leveling features and washers. Other exterior highlights would be fog lamps, drip rails, high-mount stop lamps, rear defogger, and electronically adjustable and foldable side mirrors.

Dimensionally, the mini off-road SUV measures 3,550 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width, 1,730 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,250 mm. The 15-inch wheels are wrapped in 195/80 AT tyres.

Speaking about the Suzuki Jimny colors options, the color shown in the images here is the Kinetic Yellow. Besides this, the automaker offers seven other colours in Japan and Singapore. The list includes - Brisk Blue Metallic, Silky Silver Metallic, Chiffon Ivory Metallic,  Medium Gray, Bluish Black Pearl, Jungle Green, and Superior White. We hope to get the same options in the local market as well.

Suzuki Jimny Interior

Complementing the classic and timeless exterior is the Jimny well-designed interior. It gets a horizontal instrument panel, 3-spoke steering wheel, three-position front cabin light, and assist grips passenger’s side. On the shift knobs, the SUV may get Urethane chrome finishing while on the parking brake and inside-door handle, a chrome finish is expected as standard.

In terms of tech features, the upcoming Jimny is likely to get cruise control, leather steering with call/audio controls, an automatic air-conditioning system, and a 2-DIN touchscreen head unit. A 7-inch Smartplay infotainment is expected on the higher variants.

Talking about the Jimny cabin space. As the SUV is a mini off-roader, the space inside the cabin is the last one can expect. The cargo space is also small at 85 litres, probably occupying the bags only. Folding the back seats can increase the space to 377 litres.

Suzuki Jimny Engine and Performance

Under the bonnet, the SUV is likely to be fitted with a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine churning out a maximum power output of 102 PS and a peak torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm. Part of the kit is the company’s AllGrip Pro part-time four-wheel-drive system with selectable high and low range.

Built on a ladder frame with additional cross members, the compact off-roader gets a three-link rigid axle with coil springs at the front and rear. Contributing to its off-road performance are:

• 210 mm of ground clearance
• 37-degree approach angle
• 49-degree departure angle
• 28-degree ramp break-over
• 4.9-meter turning radius

Suzuki Jimny Safety

As for safety, the Suzuki Jimny specs sheet may get a generous amount of features, including SRS airbags, anti-lock brake system, hill hold control, hill descent control, electronic stability control, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, pedal release system, and side-impact door beams. However, it is unlikely to offer an advanced driver-assistance safety suite, just like the recently-launched Swift Sport.

Suzuki Jimny Price

The automaker has not yet given any hint on the Suzuki Jimny price 2021, however, we may take an idea from the Indonesian market where its price starts at IDR 395,500,000 (RM 114,054) and goes all the way to IDR 410,000,000 (RM 118,214).

So, that's all we expect the upcoming Jimny would bring to the table. For the exact details, we need to wait for its debut which is still a few days away.
