2021 Mini Cooper Sidewalk Edition revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: Mini brought back the special edition of its classic Cooper, and that’s just at the right time when spring is here. The stylish Sidewalk edition of the subcompact car was earlier launched in 2007. For 2021, the brand has revamped the model with exclusive paintwork, unique wheels, interior features, and a fabric convertible top with an unusual pattern.
Talking about the color hues, the special edition Mini Cooper is available in Deep Laguna Metallic and Enigmatic Black Metallic. The carbon-fiber effect stripes add more sporty vibes to its unique looks. Moreover, a special Anthracite soft-top roof further enhances the beauty. The Sidewalk Cooper gets the custom-designed dual-tone 'Scissor Spoke' 17-inch alloy wheels, which have graphics on the top for further differentiation from the standard models.
“The Mini Sidewalk Edition is the perfect balance between style and performance for Mini customers who are looking for top-down, sun-drenched driving this summer,” said Patrick McKenna, Department Head, Product Planning at Mini USA. “The Mini Sidewalk Edition is also loaded with a full complement of premium standard features making it a true value for those who want something truly unique for the drive,” he added.
Step inside the cabin to find neat, unique touches that boast the interior styling in its way. There is a customized leather-wrapped steering wheel, special floor mats, and illuminated cabin surfaces. The dash top, seats, and door panels have blue finishings, while contrast stitches of grey and yellow are strewn around the cabin to bring out more visual flair. The cherry blossoms of Japan inspire the new version with its springtime theme.
The long list of technical bits includes an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Harman/Kardon premium sound system, a head-up display system, an in-dash navigation system, dual-zone automatic climate control, powered front seats, keyless entry, power-folding side mirrors, and LED headlights and fog lights.
Under the skin, Sidewalk edition houses the same 2.0-litre turbo-four engine that delivers 189 PS of maximum power and 280 Nm of peak torque. For sending the power, there is a standard 6-speed manual transmission, while a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic is also available at an extra price of $1,500 (RM 6,542). The new Cooper can do a 0-100 kmph run in 6.7 seconds.
The new outfitted Mini Cooper convertible price starts at $38,400 (RM 167,481), excluding the destination fee of $850 (RM 3,707).
