2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet unveiled
KUALA LUMPUR: A couple of months ago, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new E-Class sedan, sporting a revamped look, improved powertrain, and a fancy new steering wheel. And now, the automaker pulled the wraps off the Coupe and Cabriolet E-Class models.
The updated versions feature a new “diamond radiator” grille, redesigned LED taillights, and four additional color options – Silver, Graphite grey metallic, Mojave silver, and Patagonia red. A new aerodynamic wheel option is also included for a small boost in performance.
Coming inside the cabin, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet get the all-new 'intelligent' steering wheel having touch-capacitive controls and rim sensors. These sensors activate the warning display when the driver’s hands have not been on the steering wheel for a certain period, and the system activates the brake assist if no response comes from the driver.
The refreshed E-Class models also gain the automaker’s latest MBUX infotainment system, comprising two 10.25-inch screens for the media and digital instrument cluster display. Both the neck heater (AIRSCARF) and electric wind deflector (AIRCAP) features come as standard equipment for the Cabriolet.
The mechanical setup of the 2021 E-Class range incorporates E220d and E400d diesel models and E200, E300, and E450 petrol models.
E220d houses a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel four-cylinder unit producing 184 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque, while E400d consists of the 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel six-cylinder mill churning out 340 PS and 700 Nm.
One the other hand, E200 and E300 models carry a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit generating different output numbers. E200 produces 197 PS and 320 Nm, whereas E300 makes 258 PS and 370 Nm. And finally, there is a flagship E450 model, which comes with a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine, which generates 367 PS and 500 Nm.
All the variants are paired with a nine-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, while the 4Matic AWD layout option is available with E220d, E400d, E200, and E450 variants in both coupe and convertible layouts.
For safety, the updated models are loaded with several hi-tech appointments, including automatic emergency braking with a pedestrian detection and cross-traffic function, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera system, and an automated parking feature. The buyers can also opt for a Driver Assistance Package.
The new E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet will go on sale in the U.S. by the end of the year. However, the Malaysian launch is not yet confirmed.
