2021 Genesis G80 revealed, looks stunning in its first official images
KUALA LUMPUR: As per some reliable sources, the 2021 Genesis G80 was scheduled to make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Since the show now stands cancelled, Genesis decided to reveal its newest offering, in its own way.
The automaker revealed the car through its official Instagram account, with complete detailing of its countenances. The revelation was captioned as “stay tuned as we get set to unveil the all-new Genesis G80,” the Korean luxury automaker has unveiled every angle of the car including the interior aesthetics.
Genesis G80 mid-size sedan has been redesigned into a new luxury sedan. With this, the luxury division of Hyundai is also levelling up its styling game. Highly influenced with the G90 sedan and GV80 SUV, the luxurious new G80 also features oversized grills and distinctive LED lighting. It also features new platforms, new powertrain design and a very attractive styling appeal.
G80 features a "double-lined Quadlamp" lighting signature at both ends, connected visually by the front quarter guard. Adding to the front face beauty are the illuminated market lights aback the front wheel arches. The whole look is flourished with similar tail-lamp clusters.
Brand’s signature crest grille is enhancing the front which combined with the headlights and double-lines gives the Genesis logo a seamless look. Those lines then further contour to the side face of the car, counteracting with a chrome strip. The trunk is also cupped with the horseshoe-shaped surface. This styling tweak is named as “Athletic Elegance,” by the automaker as in this particular case, there is no stinting on the curves.
Inside, the new G80 you see the dash, center console, steering wheel and door panels, all of them very similar to the GV80 but with its own unique tweaks. A large 14.5-inch tablet-like main display sits atop the dash, which is overall combined with a blend of wood, aluminium and gloss black highlights. Other cues such as pressure-sensitive rotary dial and contrasting leather colors also appear to be highly influenced by GV80.
Though Genesis has not confirmed anything on the powertrain front, at the same time we expect it to be offered with features similar to that of GV80. This includes e a 207 kW/422 Nm 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6and 207 kW/588 Nm inline six-cylinder diesel.
As we could see from the trim, G80 rides on 20-inch wheels, but smaller options will likely be available on the standard and lower-specification variants.
Although not confirmed by the brand, we expect that Genesis's "world first" Road-Noise Active Noise Control (RANC) technology will also bring a breakthrough with the G80 launch. This innovative technology is likely to substantially cut down the road noise.
Another feature of the GV80 we should expect to see in the G80 is the active motion driver’s seat. Talking about its uniqueness are the air cells designed to reduce the fatigue and tiredness experienced by the drivers, during long journeys.
Let’s contain our anticipation until the new G80 is revealed during its Korean launch, in March. With Genesis posting these images before the car's official debut, it offers a great glimpse into the future of Genesis and things look very promising.
Though Genesis models are available on order in Malaysia, we expect the brand to offers its dealership in Malaysian markets as well.
