2021 Ford F-150 Raptor might get four-door SuperCrew variant only

KUALA LUMPUR: Back in June, Ford introduced the all-new F-150 pickup truck with a bunch of exterior tweaks, new hi-tech features, as well as a hybrid powertrain. And now, it's the F-150 Raptor turn to get a refresh. So far, the British automaker has confirmed its arrival as a 2021 model year while keeping all the technical details undisclosed. This means much about the highly anticipated pickup is the matter of debate.

At present, the Ford F-150 Raptor comes in two cab configurations – SuperCab, and SuperCrew. But now a new report of Ford Authority suggests that the automaker could drop the two-door SuperCab form and will move forward with only a four-door SuperCrew version for the upcoming generation.

This report also matches the earlier leaked VIN decoder of the upcoming pickup, which only showed the four-door SuperCrew cab trim. The source also cited that the upcoming Raptor might get the smaller swing-out door cab option after 2021. 

However, there is no indication from where this info originally came from, but if it's true, the automaker's reasoning could simply be the sales numbers. The SuperCrew cab offers greater interior cargo space to the buyers as well as it has the ability to be a better all-around family hauler and thus grabs more customers. 

If we talk about the engine specifications of the 2021 F-150 Raptor, the upcoming pickup is likely to get a supercharged 5.2-litre Predator V8 mill that powers the Mustang Shelby GT500 where it delivers 760 horsepower and 847 Nm of torque. The base version may get an updated 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 or the same 3.5-litre PowerBoost V6 available in the new F-150 Hybrid. 

The Predator-powered Raptor will rival the recently unveiled 2021 Ram TRX that houses a supercharged version of FCA’s 6.2-litre Hemi V8 engine producing 702 horsepower and 881 Nm of torque.

For confirmation of these details, we will have to wait till the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor debuts next year.
