2020 Proton X70 to feature GKUI19 & e-Series chipset

KUALA LUMPUR: Geely owned technology company, ECARX has introduced the new GKUI19 along with the E-Series chipset. The company announced both the new techs at the global showcase of Geely Boyue PRO, the future X70.

The Boyue Pro becomes the first vehicle ever to be tuned with such advanced technologies. The E-Series has been developed by ECARX together with MediaTek, a global fabless semiconductor company. It is basically a system-on-chip, a.k.a. SoC, designed especially for intelligently connected vehicles. The E-Series will further improve the user experience when used in a GKUI equipped car.

The E01 SoC is the first independently developed ECARX chip that uses dedicated Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) combined with a high-speed 64-bit quad-core Central Processing Unit (CPU). Together they support 4G modem (it provides content delivery within equipped vehicles and seamless capable connectivity) and an HD 1080p dual-screen display.

In the future, ECARX is planning to develop a more powerful E02 SoC version with an independent neural processing unit NPU and 8-cores. It is expected to be launched by Q1 of 2020.

The GKUI Geely Smart Ecosystem was released in 2018, and since then it has over 1 million active users and features in more than 22 Geely vehicles. It can be regarded as the fasters in-vehicle intelligent connectivity system.

Along with the E01 SoC, the company also launched an improved GKUI19 system that adds greater AI capabilities to the in-vehicle connectivity system. Here are a few significant upgrades that come with the GKUI19 -

• GKUI cloud is now updated to AI cloud
• Mobile inspired desktop is upgraded to a smart desktop that uses AI to configure as per user’s requirement
• One-ID system has been upgraded to all-round ID that supports different application ecosystem
• The system now gets a developer platform that allows for greater integration across the internet
• The GKUI can now seamlessly connect with Baidu smart devices, Xiaomi smart devices, JD.com smart devices, and other smart devices, thus allowing the user to control devices at home from the car itself

In the Chinese market, the all-new Boyue Pro will be sold alongside the existing Boyue and won’t replace it altogether. Now, we have to see what's in the cards for Malaysia?
