2020 Mazda 3 TCR revealed with a 2.0L turbo mill
KUALA LUMPUR: Japanese multinational automaker, Mazda has unveiled 2020 3 TCR. The car falls in the customer race car segment, which the carmaker has introduced in order to grow its motorsport presence.
Mazda Design America has sketched the fantastic look of the vehicle in Irvine, California. The all-new 3 TCR is based on the hatchback variant of the current Mazda 3. Moreover, the car manufactured, developed, and sponsored by Long Road Racing. Yes, its the same organisation that manages the MX-5 Cup.
Speaking of the powertrain, it comes equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is capable of churning out a maximum power of 350 hp and a peak torque of 490 Nm. To make it effective for racing, the motor has been tuned to redline at 7,000 rpm, which makes it a rev-happy motor. The power is sent to the front wheels through an Xtrac or Sadev six-speed sequential gearbox aided with paddle shifters to perform quick shifts without any hassle. The union of the motor and gearbox helps the race car to achieve a top speed of 241 kmph.
The bodyshell of the Mazda 3 TCR is retained to comply with the TCR Touring Car regulations; however, it does come with aerodynamic add-ons such as the side skirts, splitters, a prominent rear wing, and fender flares. In addition to that, the suspensions are unchanged as well, and the car gets 18-inch Rays wheels. The braking department is handled by the Brembo brake system, and for exceptional handling, it features an MPi steering wheel.
To add a sporty appeal, the cabin flaunts Sparco seats, Tilton adjustable pedal box, and a Motec L180 data system. The 2020 Mazda 3 TCR will make its first official debut at the 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge on January 26, 2020.
