2020 Kia Sorento revealed in full, looks like a sharp suited SUV

KUALA LUMPUR: South Korean manufacturer Kia earlier scheduled its newest offering to be disclosed at the Geneva Motor Show 2020 on March 3. Since the show got cancelled amidst Coronavirus outbreak, Kia got a lot of time to reveal full details on the new Sorento. Claimed as the “most high-tech car ever”, Sorento was revealed ahead of its still-expected Australian launch.

With this new spawn, Kia gets an edge over competitors like Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda CX-9, Skoda Kodiaq, and top-selling Toyota Kluger.

We already had seen few images of the new Sorento’s exterior and interior earlier and now with the floodgate finally being opened, the company laid-out full engine details about this fourth-generation SUV. Kia Sorento is sure to amaze everyone here with its comprehensively revamped roomier cabin, more safety features, and hybrid powertrain technology.

New Sorento is built on Kia’s midsize crossover platform and uses a mix of steel and aluminium along with advanced high-strength steel. These materials combine to give a lighter bodyshell which is 54 kg less but at the same time, offers torsional rigidity more than 12.5% than the perceived safety standards of the SUV segment.

New Sorento dons much masculine and boxier design language with more angular and sharp lines at both the front and rear fascia.
Kia engineers have smartly sculpted the body with sharpened lines that are much similar to its predecessor. Very noticeable at the front face is the “tiger-nose” grille that seamlessly contours to meet the triple LED projector headlights with U-shaped inserts connecting them. For a more appealing look, the entire chrome strip flows continuously to the L-shaped Daytime Running Lights. The entire lighting style is placed in a crisp sharp curved surface beneath which is placed a large central air intake to form angular bumper corners. Tailgate is designed to feature the creased metal and taillights have vertical LEDs. A-pillars are extended from the front axle to the bonnet for a razor-sharp stretch while the door mirrors are separated for a cleaner look.

Coming to the side face of the car you can notice a very prominent arching shoulder line that covers the front and rear ends. Underneath the shoulder line lies a chrome fastened fender vent. Above the line, lies a shark fin placed rearward to the back doors. Rear end of the new Sorento is the most uniquely styled part of the car, which has neat creases on the tailgate around the number plate area. Four vertical taillights much resemble the Ford Mustang and the entire rear fascia is completed with large black bumper with multiple vents on sides. With a comprehensive overhauling on the exterior, the new Sorento looks like a much nicely suited SUV.

Similarly, getting inside the car will also give you feels of a completely revamped and much roomier cabin. Various tweaks have been done to quality and design. Not to exaggerate but Sorento has one of the finest interiors in terms of quality and technology, found in any Kia models to date. Starting from the materials used to the hi-tech infotainment system, Sorento has an interior that makes it a collectable model. As you enter the car, a horizontal dashboard welcomes you which is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz. It sports a large display panel measuring up to 10.25 inches across, as well as an available 12.3-inch digital instrument display. Along with these displays, you find haptic controls also featuring climate control and navigation assist.

Sorento also offers wireless smartphone charging with Bose sound system. Kia also gamed up with the best quality interior materials like metallic trim, satin-effect surfaces and Nappa leather seats. It also dons a 64-colour ambient lighting system to give you a plush feel.

Talking about the safety features, the Sorento is a complete package with door opening warning, autonomous braking for reverse parking, eight airbags, including a new center airbag between the front seats. Additionally, it also has autonomous emergency braking with traffic detection, blind-spot monitoring with collision avoidance and rear cross-traffic braking and Highway Driving Assist (HDA).

With irresistible components and geometrical tweaks, Kia Sorento is here to win hearts.
