2020 Kia Sonet makes global debut, check details
KUALA LUMPUR: Kia Sonet was a much-awaited car that was being teased by the automaker for a while. Today the South Korean automaker revealed it in full glory. The crossover will first go on sale in the Indian market, followed by other ASEAN countries. Before Sonet, Kia launched the Seltos SUV in India, which proved to be a success, and now the company hopes the same for its latest offering.
Let’s now discuss the all-new Kia Sonet in detail, starting with its design language. The Sonet is a stylish car that seems to be a blend of SUV-like look and sedan-like comfort. At the front, it features Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille, which in the GT variant gets red highlights. Also present are sleek LED headlights, ‘heartbeat’ DRLs, and large air intakes. Compared to the front, the side looks simpler. However, it gets curvaceous doors, black-out C-pillar, and 16-inch alloy wheels. At the back, we love what Kia has done with the taillight - they feature the company’s signature ‘Heartbeat’ pattern and are connected to the reflector strip creating a single-element look. Chrome finished faux exhaust and skid plate are also part of the deal.
On the inside, the Sonet showcases a spacious cabin; however, it’s the boot that has caught our attention - it’s quite big. Though plastic is used all-over, it nowhere looks cheap. The major highlight of Kia Sonet cabin is -
- 10.25-inch HD touch screen navigation
- Bose premium 7-speaker system with sound mood light
- Ventilated front seats
- Smart pure air purifier with virus protection
- UVO app with smartwatch connectivity
- Electric sunroof
- Wireless charging for smartphones
- 4.2-inch advance colour instrument cluster
Under the hood configuration includes three engine options - a 1.0-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel unit. On the transmission front, Kia will be offering the following options - 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, DCT automatic, and the all-new Intelligent Manual Transmission. There is also an automatic torque converter for the diesel trim.
That’s all on the 2020 Kia Sonet, let’s hope Kia Malaysia brings the latest crossover to the local market.
