2020 Isuzu MU-X scores 5-star safety rating

2020 Isuzu MU-X scores 5-star safety rating

KUALA LUMPUR: The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries, commonly known as ASEAN NCAP has awarded the 2020 Isuzu MU-X five-star safety rating. The new D-Max made its debut in Thailand a few months back and the brand has gained a lot of traction for the SUV.

Coming to its safety rating, ASEAN NCAP first assessed the seven-seater SUV in 2016, wherein it scored a 4-star rating - both AOP and COP categories. Back then, the model’s safety result was extended from the 2014 test performed by ASEAN NCAP on the D-Max. For 2020, the MU-X AOP safety results are extended from D-Max Jan cash test scores. Why? Well, that’s because MU-X’s platform features the same restraint system and crashworthiness setup as the D-Max.

As far as the tested model is concerned, a 2020 year built, 1.9L AT MU-X variant was put under the radar. Its country of origin is Thailand and it is for Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Philippines, and Laos.

Here is a glimpse of the 2020 MU-X ASEAN NCAP scorecard -

  • Adult Occupant Protection - 30.36 out of 36
  • Child Occupant Protection - 44.37 out of 49
  • Safety Assist Score - 15.85 out of 18

During the front offset impact test, the 2020 MU-X passenger compartment remained stable. The data collected from the dummies showed that the driver and passenger’s chest protection was adequate; there is marginal protection for the driver's knee.

The 7-seat SUV standard safety kit consists of two airbags, ABS and ESC. In Thailand, it benefits from SBR for the driver, front, and rear passengers. In other South East Asia countries, it gets Inter-Urban, FCW, AEB City, LDW, and VRU.

Isuzu MU-X comes with Blind Spot Technology whose functionality ASEAN NCAP assessed. The agency confirmed that the BST on both the right and left-side in the MU-X functioned according to its requirements.
