2020 Hyundai Sonata is now available in Malaysia, check all the details here
KUALA LUMPUR: After an absence of almost two years in the Malaysian market, Hyundai's D-segment sedan, the Sonata has finally made a comeback. Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors has just launched the eighth-generation Sonata virtually on its official Facebook page along with the new Hyundai Kona SUV.
With a single variant priced at RM 206,888, the model stands head to head against the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Volkswagen Passat. During the event, the automaker also announced an introductory price of RM 189,888 (with 50% sales tax exemption) for the first 50 units.
The biggest selling point of the new Hyundai Sonata is its looks, which shows a stark difference as compared to the previous model. It boasts the brand’s latest ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design philosophy with the coupe-like roofline and sharp body creases. Upfront, there is a large digital pulse cascading grille, divided into two sections by a chrome bar that runs from the air intakes at both ends. The daytime-running lights extend into the bar running across the bonnet length and when the lights are turned off, the bar appears as chrome thanks to the laser-etched perforations.
Talking about the rear section, the sedan comes with full LED tail lamps with a continuous LED bar running along the trunk. Other highlights include a roof-mounted third brake light, an integrated ducktail spoiler, and an integrated diffuser. The Sonata stands on 18-inch multispoke dual-tone alloy wheels.
Claimed as the biggest sedan in its class, the Sonata measures 4,900 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, 1,445 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,840 mm. The sedan’s smart boot holds a capacity of 510 litres.
The exterior colour choices include White Cream, Shimmering Silver, Oxford Blue, Midnight Black, Nocturne Grey, and Flame Red. And for interior, customers can choose from three available colour schemes, depending on the exterior colour selection.
Inside, the 2020 Hyundai Sonata gets a floating dashboard and a freestanding 8-inch instrument cluster that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Further adding to the list are:
- 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
- Head-up display
- Smart key with start stop button
- Auto cruise control
- 8-way plus 2-way lumbar support driver seat and 4-way powered front passenger seat
- Dual-zone auto air conditioning with rear vents
- Wireless charging pad
- Leather seats
- Panoramic sunroof
Powering the new Hyundai Sonata is a 2.5-litre Smartstream four-cylinder MPI gasoline engine churning out a maximum power of 180 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 232 Nm at 4,000 rpm. A six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters sends power to the front wheels. The four driving modes are Smart, Comfort, Eco, and Sport.
As for safety, Hyundai’s new D-segment is loaded with a plethora of features, including
- 6 airbags (driver, front passenger, side)
- Anti-lock brake system
- Electronic stability control
- Hill-start assist control
- Downhill brake control
- Brake assist system
- Vehicle stability management
- Tyre pressure monitoring system
The sedan does not have the Hyundai SmartSense advanced driver-assist system, available in the newly launched Kona SUV. However, a Surround View Monitor serving a 360-degree birds-eye view of the vehicle and its surroundings with a blind spot view monitor is there to assist the driver.
On purchase, the customers will get a warranty coverage of five-year or 300,000 km, whichever comes first.
