2020 Hyundai Ioniq facelift range arrived in the US
KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai has used the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show platform for the 2020 Ioniq facelift US debut on Wednesday. The trio - Ioniq Hybrid, Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid and Ioniq Electric are currently being showcased at the show, which is happening in California.
Prior to the US, back in January this year, Hyundai revealed the refreshed Ioniq range for the European market. For the 2020 Hyundai Ioniq facelift range, price starts from US$ 23,000 in the US, which is equivalent to RM 96K in Malaysian currency.
Speaking of the modifications, the 2020 range comes with many upgradations in terms of design, list of equipment and also safety features. The exterior design has been revised with a new mesh-type grille for the Hybrid and PHEV models, while the Electric variant features a prominent enclosed grille. Apart from the design, two new colours (Electric Shadow and Stellar Silver) are also added for the exterior.
Inside the car, the models (PHEV and Electric) get a freestanding touchscreen 10.25-inch head unit, which supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth. For the Electric, the carmaker has given its proprietary telematics system, Blue Link along with several remote functions. However, for the entry-level, Ioniq Hybrid, the head unit is 8-inch along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Moving to the powertrain specifications, the range-topping Ioniq Electric comes with a 38.3 kWh battery. The driving range is up to 274 km. There is an onboard AC charger and 80% of the battery can be charged within 54 minutes.
Continuing with the power bits, the other two models get a 1.6-litre Kappa four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, which can churn out a maximum power of 105 PS and a peak torque of 147 Nm at 5,700 rpm and 4,000 rpm, respectively. The Hybrid model also gets a 43.5 PS/170 Nm electric motor, which is paired with a 1.56 kWh Li-ion battery. On the other hand, the Plug-in model comes with a 60.5 PS/170 Nm electric motor, paired with an 8.9 kWh Li-ion battery.
In terms of safety, the facelift trio gets a range of features like avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keeping assist, driver attention warning, blind-spot collision warning and many more.
