2020 Honda Jazz and Jazz Crosstar marks the ambition of e:HEV

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda is thrilled to debut the all-new Jazz Crosstar at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, along with a range of electrified products and energy management innovations. The Japanese automobile conglomerate has unified a new brand under e:HEV technology and the products line-up represents Honda’s ambition to provide a full range of electrified mobility and energy products to suit modern lifestyles.

The 2020 Honda Jazz was actually revealed in 2019 as the Honda Fit but is heading for Europe this summer as Jazz and its crossover sibling Honda Jazz Crosstar.

The 2020 Geneva Motor Show will witness Honda’s new range of electrified and connected products and will bring to life a new era of e-technology.

Visitors at the show will experience the full electric Honda e. Honda Jazz and Honda Jazz Crosstar are two models of the six to be launched that will see all Honda’s mainstream models in Europe electrified by 2022.

The much talked about e:HEV system comprises of two compact electric motors connected to a 1.5 litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine, a lithium-ion battery and a fixed-gear transmission via an intelligent power control unit. One of the motors acts as a generator to recharge the battery. The other is a propulsion motor to assist in low-speed acceleration. Instead of a conventional transmission, the engine sends drive to the front wheels via a single fixed-gear ratio and a lock-up clutch, which is said to provide a smoother transfer of torque and a linear feel during acceleration. Honda says this setup is also more compact and refined when compared to a planetary eCVT gearbox usually associated with hybrids.

Talking about the aesthetics of new Jazz Crosstar, its water-resistant upholstery comes with increased ride height, integrated roof rails, a bolder front grille design, black cladding and side sills, and Crosstar-specific alloys. It will come with the same e:HEV two-motor hybrid powertrain as the regular Jazz.

Looking at the design and styling, we are convinced that Honda isn’t moving away from the Jazz’s core appeal, but there is enough evolution that’s new to tempt more buyers.

We keep our anticipation to rest till we receive an official announcement on the e:HEV models to debut in Malaysia, any sooner.
