2020 Honda Accord now available in Malaysia, starting at RM 186k
KUALA LUMPUR: After opening the booking doors nearly a week ago, Honda Malaysia has launched the tenth-gen Accord in the country with more dynamic styling than before. The sedan seems to have taken the design cues from the sibling, Civic. The sweeping roofline gives it a more stylish appearance, while the front is on the aggressive end featuring a large chrome slat flanked by sleeker-looking full-LED headlamps with DRLs. The grille at the front is extended to the lower end of the bumper, which boasts horizontal LED fog lamps at either end.
The upswept rear end of the sedan gives it a unique touch. You’d also notice a kinked end to the window line in addition to the integrated exhaust tips garnished with chrome and wrap-around LED taillamps. Over the sides are the five-spoke alloys (17- and 18-inch options) and A-pillar mounted side mirrors. There is a shark-fin antenna that adds to its exterior appeal.
The new Accord is available in four exterior colour choices, including Platinum White Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl. The white pearl Accord is available at a premium of RM 400.
Inside, the sedan features a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch Advanced Display head unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, ten speakers, and a subwoofer. Aside from this, the company has blessed it with leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, four front and rear parking sensors, a multi-angle reverse camera, keyless entry and start, and powered front seats with four-way passenger and 8-way driver with memory.
Powering the new Honda Accord is the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder V-TEC turbocharged petrol engine that can be found inside the CR-V and the Civic. The power mill fitted inside the Accord is, however, more powerful than on other models. It churns out a max power of 201 PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 260 Nm between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm, mated to an Earth Dreams CVT that transfers power to the front wheels. There are two drive modes on offer, Econ and Sport. Performance-wise, it can sprint from zero to 100 Kmph in 9 seconds and attain a top speed of 190 Kmph.
On the safety front, Honda Accord specs sheet gets vehicle stability assist, ABS with EBD, agile handling assist, brake assist, hill start assist and six airbags (front, side and curtain) as standard. The top-of-the-line variant also gets Honda Sensing Safety suite that includes features like forward-collision warning, collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and low speed follow, which is new to the tenth-gen model.
Not just this, the range-topping model also gets features is a 360-degree camera, smart parking assist with rear brake assist, tyre deflation warning system, cross-traffic monitor and LanceWatch. With so much there to keep occupants safe, the Honda Accord comes with a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.
Dimension-wise, the Accord measures 4,901 mm in length, 1,862 mm in width and 1,450 mm in height. The sedan’s length has reduced by 34 mm, while it’s width by 12 mm. In terms of height, it is 15 mm lower than before. The wheelbase, on the other hand, has increased by 55 mm, now measures 2,830 mm.
The tenth-gen Honda Accord is available in two variants, 1.5 TC and 1.5 TC-P. While the former is priced at RM 185,900, the latter gets a retail tag of RM 195,900 (both prices OTR without insurance). Both models come with a 5-year/unlimited mileage warranty within 100,000 km or five years. Honda also offers five free labour services.
