2019 Tokyo Motor Show: Mitsubishi previews Super Height K-Wagon Concept
KUALA LUMPUR: Apart from the Mi-Tech concept, Mitsubishi has also revealed its Super Height K-Wagon Concept at the ongoing 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The car is scheduled to make its appearance in the home market by the end of the current year. It shows how people might use Japan’s traditional little Kei-class vehicles. As you can find out from the pictures, the pre-production model has stretched the regulations of a Kei car to its limit.
It targets the drivers “who want to go more places and longer distances,” according to the press release. The Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer claimed that it provides the largest back seat legroom and rear door opening in its class.
The interior feels surprisingly luxurious, with the seats getting synthetic leather covered in diamond quilting. The cabin uses orange as a secondary color and brown as dominant. You can also find contrast stitching on the dashboard, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and seats.
Talking about the exterior design, the Mitsubishi concept looks very similar to a tall box on wheels that flaunts the brand’s signature Dynamic Shield front fascia. Even though it gets a more utilitarian appearance, it somewhat resembles the eK X Kei car, which was launched earlier this year. It comes with a few SUV styling cues that include black plastic cladding around the sills and on the wheel arches, and silver roof rails.
The carmaker has not revealed the detailed specs regarding the powertrain yet but has provided a hint by saying that it will get “a high-performance engine and CVT.” It sounds interesting because Kei cars are limited to 0.66-litre turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline mills. Despite that, the brand has promised “brisk, stress-free road performance in low-speed and high-speed zones.”
