2019 Mazda CX-5 CKD launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda Malaysia has launched the updated Mazda CX-5 range with five variants available for sale. The range starts with an entry-level 2.0 2WD Mid and goes up to the top of line 2.5 4WD High. All the variants are locally assembled at the Inokom plant situated in Kulim, Kedah. Also, it was only recently that Mazda opened its booking books for the new CX-5.

The new CX-5 lineup now gets a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motor, which is capable of churning out a maximum power of 228 hp at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 420 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The power is sent to all the four wheels via a six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission. This is the most potent engine among the range as it produces almost 40 hp more than the CX-5 SkyActiv-D’s 2.2-litre turbodiesel motor. In addition to that, the diesel engine will now come with 2WD as the earlier model which came with 4WD has been dropped from the lineup.

Moving to the fuel efficiency, the 2.5-litre turbo petrol consumes 8.2 litres of fuel per 100 km. However, the 2.5 GLS 2WD with its naturally-aspirated petrol motor is more fuel-efficient as it consumes 7.3 litres of fuel per 100 km. The most fuel-efficient model in the range is the 2WD diesel, consuming merely 5.5 litres of fuel per 100 km.

New Mazda CX-5 specs sheet tells that all its variants come equipped with automatic LED headlights, LED fog lamps, LED combination taillights, and LED daytime running lights except for the base 2.0 GL variant that gets bulb-type DRLs. The trim mentioned above also lacks features like a powered tailgate, keyless entry, and front parking sensors.

You can find a 360-degree around-view camera as standard on all the models except for the 2.0 GL. The safety features are almost identical in all variants, and the safety kit includes Dynamic Stability Control, six airbags, Traction Control System, EBD, ABS, Emergency Stop Signal, Emergency Brake Assist, and Isofix child seat anchors.
