2019 Mazda 3 showcased in Malaysia, price starts from RM 140k
KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda Malaysia officially showcased the all-new 2019 Mazda 3 at the Bermaz showroom located in Glenmarie. The car, however, is yet to be launched in the country, thus making it a good chance for prospective buyers to check it out beforehand. Once launched, the Mazda 3 would be offered in three trim choices and will be a completely built unit imported from Japan.
The base model will be offered in both a sedan or hatchback form, the brand showed the former. Powering the 2019 Mazda 3 is a SkyActiv-G 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol mill that churns out a maximum power of 118 hp at 6,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 153 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The power will be sent to the ground via a SkyActiv-Drive six-speed automatic gearbox. Price of the base variant starts from RM 139,770 (on-the-road without insurance).
On the equipment front, the base trim comes loaded with automatic LED projector headlamps, bulb-type daytime running lights (DRLs), 16-inch alloy wheels, and LED taillights. On the inside, it gets a 7-inch TFT-LCD digital instrument cluster display, single-zone manual air-conditioning, 8.8-inch central display linked to a Mazda Connect infotainment system, 8-speakers, soft-touch door cards and dash, fabric upholstery, manually operated front seats, and a windscreen-projected head-up display.
Assisting the driver are features like automatic brake hold function paired with the electronic parking brake, and passive cruise control. In addition to all this, there is also a Sport mode that hikes the throttle response while adjusting the transmission shift position.
Coming to the middle 2.0 Hight trim, it is only offered in sedan form and would retail for RM 150,059. As can be known from its name, it is powered by a 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G engine unit that makes 163 hp and 213 Nm. It’s an improvement over the base variant as it gets additional gears like leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, frameless rearview mirror, rear air-con vents, and a sunroof.
The range-topping 2.0 High Plus model is available in both sedan and hatchback guise; however, at the showcasing was present only the later unit. Its specs sheet includes 18-inch wheels, LED projector headlamps, ring-shaped LED DRL signature, and 10-way powered driver seat with two-setting memory function.
On the safety front, the top trim comes along with Mazda i-Activsense safety and driver assistance systems. It includes Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC), Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), Smart City Brake Support (SCBS), High Beam Control (HBC), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Lane Keep Assist System (LAS), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS).
