2016 Porsche 718 Boxster Revealed With New Engines

Kuala Lumpur: The 2016 Porsche 718 Boxster is all set to get unveiled at the upcoming 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Earlier in December, Porsche 718 Boxster engine specifications were revealed which gave us a brief idea about this car. This time automaker has ditched the older flat six-cylinder engine for a new turbocharged flat-four engine. Along with the new '718' suffix, it has also got a refreshed styling. Moreover, 718 also brings this car in line with other Porsche sports car.

Under the hood, entry level Boxster is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four engine which is capable of delivering a maximum power of 300 hp along with a peak torque of 380 Nm at 1950-4500 rpm. The more powerful Boxster S variant is employed with a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine which churns out a maximum power of 350 hp along with a commanding torque of 420 Nm. Both the variants are mated with a six-speed manual transmission along with an option of Porsche's seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. The 2.0-litre variant can complete a century sprint in 4.5 seconds while the quicker S variant can do it in just 4 seconds. Further, the turbocharging of this engine not only increases its performance but also improves its fuel efficiency by 13%.

Talking about the exterior, Porsche has sharpened its look to bring it in line with recently launched models. Major tweaks include new headlights with LED daytime running lights, larger front air intakes and new 19-inch alloy wheels. For the all-new Porsche 718 Boxster, you would have to shell out a whopping amount of RM255,000 while the price of 718 Boxster S variant comes to RM309,000. Both the variants could be ordered now and the deliveries would start in spring 2016.

After these announcements, you can also expect a 718-based Boxster Spyder in near future with new engines. It has been a long time since older version of Boxster was launched in Malaysia in July 2015. So once this new version gets launched officially, you can also expect it to reach Malaysia in some time. As the sports car market of Malaysia is getting heated up, the arrival of the latest Boxster 718 may come out to be a big threat for Ferrari 488 as well.
