Looking instantly recognizable, the 2016 Lancer is designed with a new front fascia. It gets a newly reworked grille that is divided into two courtesy of horizontal bar and gave the previous Lancer it's signature shark-like scowl for a more sober look. It also gets a redesigned front bumper with standard headlights, boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights and fog lamps. While the 16-inch wheels are kept as standard, the costlier GT variant would get 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels. Apart from this the GT variant would also receive larger disc brakes, sport-tuned suspension, a sunroof and a rear spoiler. The car has also been equipped with additional chrome trim plus two new paint colours named Diamond White Pearl and Alloy Silver.
Inside, the base framework remains unchanged but gains a redesigned front centre console along with a new upholstery. The main console also features a USB port and either a new display audio system or a new optional navigation system. The entry-level ES variant also gains additional standard equipment including an automatic climate control system, a colour multi-info display screen and a FUSE Bluetooth hands-free system. Moving over, the SE trim receives additional features like heated front seats, a reverse camera and an enhanced audio system with HD radio. Lastly, the range-topping SEL model gets leather seats, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers along with auto dimming mirrors.

But now these models would be equipped with a continuously variable transmission featuring a new CVT8 gearbox which claims to improve performance and fuel efficiency.
