The Peugeot 408 is the brand's latest SUV in Malaysia, and it's making quite an impression with its head-turning looks and impressive features. The SUV is a game-changer for both the brand and the automotive world as it features a unique fastback silhouette that sets it apart from traditional SUVs. However, it's not just looks; the performance and advanced technology of the SUV also make a bold statement in the crowded market.

Dynamic and innovative fastback design

As mentioned above, the new Peugeot 408 boasts an innovative design that combines the silhouette of a 5-door saloon with the dynamism of a fastback coupe. It is characterised by sharp surfaces that create a multifaceted appearance, especially noticeable at the rear. 

At the front, we can see a long bonnet elegantly positioned between raised wings, a striking grille centred around the Peugeot emblem and slim, high-performance headlights. The back of the roof is designed for better aerodynamics with two "cat ears" that help direct airflow to the boot lid spoiler. The unexpected rear design also incorporates an inverse cutout bumper design and 3D ‘Claw Effect’ LED tail lights.

Peugeot i-Cockpit®

The Peugeot i-Cockpit® has evolved over the past decade, and the new 408 introduces advanced ergonomics, quality, and technology. It features a compact steering wheel, a customizable 10-inch digital display, a hi-tech central touchscreen that supports easy connectivity via Bluetooth and USB plug-ins.

The interior design balances space between the driver and passenger, with controls accessible to both. The centre console is open towards the passenger, allowing easy access to media and navigation, while the driver’s side features dynamic controls and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

PEUGEOT i-Toggles®

The new PEUGEOT i-Toggles® offers a modern and user-friendly way to access essential functions within the vehicle. These innovative touch-sensitive buttons are arranged below the central screen to provide quick and intuitive control over various everyday features, enhancing the overall driving experience.

With the help of these configurable i-toggles, drivers can personalise their experience by setting and storing individual preferences for display settings, climate control, and other vehicle settings. It can store up to eight different profiles.

A full suite of driver-assistance systems

The SUV comes packed with a range of driving assistance systems, supported by a network of several high-definition cameras, thus offering a smoother and safer ride. The list includes - 

• Adaptive Cruise Control with stop-and-go function and adjustable distance setting
• Automatic emergency braking with collision warning (detect pedestrians and cyclists, day and night from 7 kmph to 140 kmph depending on version)
• Active lane departure warning with lane correction
• Driver Attention Alert (detect impaired alertness over long periods of driving and at speeds of over 65 kmph)
• Long-range blind spot monitoring (75m)
• Rear traffic alert
• 360° parking assistance
• Matrix LED headlamps 

Highly-efficient drivetrain

At the heart of the new Peugeot 408 lies a highly efficient drivetrain that minimises fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. The SUV is powered by the brand’s PureTech 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-four cylinder petrol engine, which is good for producing a maximum power of 218 PS at 5,750 rpm and a peak torque of 300 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Unmatched comfort

The 408 is a premium C-segment fastback designed for enhanced comfort and convenience on every journey. It features an AGR-certified driver’s seat, ensuring excellent ergonomics and adjustability. The seats offer 10-way power adjustment for the driver with memory settings, six-way power adjustment for the passenger, and include heating and an eight-pocket air massage system with five programs.

With a long wheelbase of 2.787m, the 408 also offers generous space to the rear occupants. It boasts 188 mm of knee room and a well-designed footwell for added comfort. 

Peugeot Malaysia offers the new 408 in three variants - Allure, Premium, and GT, with a price ranging from RM 146,055 to RM 196,055. The vehicle is locally assembled in Gurun, Kedah, and comes with a 7-year/200,000 km warranty, including a three-year manufacturer warranty coverage and four years of extended warranty coverage by Stellantis Malaysia.
