Top 7 upcoming EVs hitting the Malaysian roads In 2025

2024 was a big year for EVs in Malaysia, with a number of exciting launches, especially from Chinese players, shaking up the local automotive industry. However, the momentum does not stop here! As we step into 2025, a new wave of electric cars is gearing up to hit the Malaysian roads, bringing more innovation and style to the table.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the upcoming EVs in Malaysia?

Upcoming EVs in Malaysia include the Perodua eMO-II, Honda e.N1, Jaecoo J6, Leapmotor T03, Volvo EX90, and more.
  • Here’s a look at the top 7 upcoming EVs in Malaysia in 2025.

    Perodua eMO-II

The most-awaited electric vehicle in the Malaysian EV market is the first-ever Perodua EV. Unlike the Proton eMAS 7 co-developed with Geely, the Perodua EV will be fully developed in-house by Perodua’s R&D team.

The EV was recently previewed as the eMO-II EV concept at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show and is currently in the prototype stage. The concept vehicle is a hatchback model featuring a bold and futuristic look with sharp angles and sleek curves. Initially, the motor, inverter, and battery will be imported, with plans to localize them later. The battery will come from CATL, a leading EV battery maker. The Perodua EV is expected to launch by the end of 2025 and is likely priced under RM 100k.

    Honda e.N1

Another important EV to watch in 2025 is the Honda e.N1. It is an electric SUV that recently made its Malaysian debut at KLIMS 2024. Set to launch in Malaysia next year, the Honda e:N1 underpins the brand’s newly developed e:NArchitecture F platform.

Said to be the all-electric version of the Honda HR-V, the e:N 1 features a front-mounted electric motor tuned to deliver 204 hp of maximum power and 310 Nm of torque. Feeding the motor is a 68.8-kWh battery pack, which offers a driving range of up to 412 km on the WLTP cycle. There is no information yet available on Honda e:N 1 pricing in Malaysia.

    Denza D9

BYD is geared up to introduce its premium sub-brand, Denza, to the Malaysian market, further solidifying its presence in the EV segment. The first Denza EV to hit the local roads in 2025 is a seven-seater electric MPV, the Denza D9.

In the global market, the Denza D9 EV comes in two guises - a front-wheel drive electric motor capable of generating a maximum power of 313 PS and a peak torque of 360 Nm. The top-spec version, on the other hand, features an AWD dual motor setup good for making 374 PS and 470 Nm. The electric MPV comes with a 103 kW lithium-ion battery pack, offering an NEDC-rated driving range of up to 600 km on the FWD and 580 km on the AWD model.

    Jaecoo J6

Another much-anticipated EV of 2025 is the Jaecoo J6, which will be Jaecoo’s second model in Malaysia after the J7. First preview at Malaysia Autoshow 2024, the Jaceoo J6 is an electric off-roader that appears as a smaller version of the Land Rover Defender.

The EV comes in 2WD and 4WD trims in the Thai market. The former comes equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor generating 181 PS and 220 Nm of torque while the 4WD trim runs on a dual motor setup tuned to make 275 PS and 385 Nm. Battery options include - 65.69 kWh and 69.77 kWh, offering a range of up to 371 km (on the WLTP cycle).

    Leapmotor T03

After making waves in the Malaysian EV market with the launch of the spacious C10, Leapmotor is now gearing up to introduce the more affordable T03. It is a compact electric vehicle that is expected to hit the Malaysian shores sometime next year.

The Leapmotor T03 features a modern aesthetic and state-of-the-art technological features. Powered by an in-house developed electric system, the Leapmotor T03 comes in three e-motor versions - 54 PS, 75 PS, and 109 PS and three battery options - 21.6 kWh, 31.9 kWh, and 41.3 kWh in the Chinese market. The upcoming Leapmotor EV will rival the likes of the BYD Dolphin and Neta V.

    GAC Aion Hyper HT

After the Y Plus and ES, GAC’s electric sub-brand Aion is ready to introduce another BEV in Malaysia, called the Aion Hyper HT. Pre-registrations of the EV are now open, with the launch expected to happen sometime in 2025.

The GAC Aion Hyper HT features striking gull-wing doors, a long-range magazine battery, and supports lighting-fast charging. It comes in two rear-wheel-drive motor options - a 245 PS/355 Nm version and a 340 PS/430 Nm version, with 0-100 kmph times of 6.8 and 5.8 seconds, respectively. Battery options range from 70 kWh to 99.5 kWh, delivering up to 825 km of CLTC-rated range.

    Zeekr 7X

Geely's premium electric vehicle brand, Zeekr, recently made its debut in the Malaysian market with two exciting EVs, the X and 009. But that’s not all as the Chinese EV maker also previewed the Zeekr 7X, which is set to arrive in the local market next year.

The Zeekr 7X is a midsize electric SUV that underpins the brand’s PMA2+ platform and an 800V electrical architecture. In China, the EV comes in two battery options - a 75-kWh LFP ‘Golden Brick’ and a 100-kWh NMC‘Qilin’ battery, both paired with a rear-mounted motor delivering 421 PS of power and 440 Nm of torque. The LFP battery offers a WLTC-claimed range of 605 km, while the NMC extends it to 780 km.

There is also an AWD version with the NMC unit, which offers a combined output of 646 PS and 710 Nm and a 705 km range.

    Volvo EX90

Touted as Volvo’s safest car ever, the EX90, will be making its way to the Malaysian market next year. As per Volvo Car Malaysia Managing Director, Charles Frump, the brand aims to become the ‘number one eLuxury car brand’ in the country and is geared up to launch the EX90 soon.

The EX90 is the brand’s flagship EV that slots above the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge. It features an evolutionary exterior design, a minimalistic interior loaded with high-end technologies and sustainability materials, and a LIDAR system with several sensors, radars, and cameras.

The EV comes in two AWD dual-motor setups - Twin Motor with 408 PS and 770 Nm, and the Twin Motor Performance with 517 PS and 910 Nm. Both are mated to a 111 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering an estimated range of 600 km.

Beyond these top 7 picks, other highly-anticipated EVs that are expected to launch in Malaysia in 2025 are - Kia EV3, Peugeot e-3008, Deepal S05, Deepal S07, Electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Neta S, and JAC T9.

With the EV revolution gaining momentum in Malaysia, 2025 promises to bring us closer to a cleaner, more electrified future.
