Peugeot 3008: Know its alternatives

Peugeot 3008 was revealed to the world in 2008. But it could not make space for itself in the compact crossover segment for many reasons. Now, the 3008 is in its second-generation avatar which is so much better than its predecessor, especially in the way it looks.

Peugeot 3008

Peugeot really worked hard to make sure that the new 3008 has got a design that appeals to a larger group of people. It sure does excite us. But, just like in the past, even today the competition in this class is pretty strong. So, here are a few alternatives to the Peugeot 3008.

Mazda CX-5

When it comes to looks, the latest model of the Mazda CX-5 gives a tough competition to the Peugeot 3008. Mazda implemented its “KODO” design language to make the CX-5 a tempting car. One of the most striking features of the CX-5 is LED headlamps along with the unique front grille. Another aspect that makes this Mazda worth spending your money is the Skyactiv technology. This is supposedly present to enhance the overall ownership experience of the CX-5.

Mazda CX-5

It is commendable that Mazda brings safety features like six airbags, ABS, Dynamic Stability Control, EBD, and Traction Control System as standard across all the variants of the CX-5. We are also impressed by the other advanced safety features like Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Lane-Keep Assist System (LAS), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), and G-Vectoring Control.

The Mazda CX-5 is available in five variants with three engine options - 2.0-litre & 2.5-litre SKYACTIV-G inline 4-cylinder petrol engines and a 2.2-litre SKYACTIV-D inline 4-cylinder diesel engine - and a single gearbox - SKYACTIV-DRIVE 6-Speed automatic transmission - with Manual Shift Mode. The price starts at RM 127,653 for the base model.

Toyota C-HR

Just like the Mazda CX-5, the Toyota C-HR stands up well against the Peugeot 3008. It has got some sophisticated styling going on the outside. The main attraction on the exterior front is the huge pair of headlamps. The side view is done just right by providing a two-door look as the handles are located behind the window glass. The rear end is more complex-looking than any other part of the car. The LED tail lights are designed in a such a manner that they appear to be floating.

Toyota C-HR

The C-HR features a new diamond-inspired design on the leather seats to which add to the premiumness of the cabin. The soft padding on the dashboard feels nice to touch. There is a 7-inch touchscreen that features smartphone connectivity, Wi-Fi, Internet browser, voice recognition, HDMI, USB, Bluetooth, and a reverse parking camera.

There’s only a single variant of the C-HR that comes with a 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder engine that produces 140 PS of max power and 171 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to Toyota’s Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with 7-speed Sequential Shiftmatic which guarantees seamless performance and comfort. It is priced at RM 137,299.

Honda CR-V

Honda CR-V debut in the Malaysian market in 2017 and currently it is running in its fifth-generation. It is a handsome-looking car without being too modern or sophisticated as the other two cars we have just talked about. With just a look you can tell that it is a Honda. There is a signature chrome grille at the front. We have got the familiar set of headlights that bring in just the necessary amount of sportiness to the car. The side view is simple and elegant, only to get a hint of excitement by the cool-looking alloy wheels. The D-pillar pretty much occupies the rear mounted large tail light clusters.

Honda CR-V

The interior of the CR-V has been done in black. The materials used here are of high quality. Also, the fit and finish are impressive. There is ample amount of space for the occupants in the first two rows. The last row of seats is not as comfortable and should be left vacant for kids. For the entertainment needs, there is a 7-inch touchscreen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The CR-V is available four variants that come with two engine options - a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit with 193 PS and 243 Nm of torque and 2.0-litre naturally aspirated unit that produces 154 PS and 189 Nm of torque. If we talk about the pricing, it starts at RM 134,384 and goes all the way up to RM 158,225.

These are some of the best alternatives for the Peugeot 3008 that are available for purchase in the market right now.
