The L.A. Auto Show officially opened its doors for the public on November 18th and will go on till Nov 27, 2022. The auto show taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Centre is in its 115th edition and like in the past has a lot to offer.
This year’s edition of the L.A. Auto Show marks the debut of several new and revised vehicles including sedans, pickup trucks, SUVs, convertibles, electric vehicles, and concept cars.
Here are a few cars that we found most interesting at the 2022 L.A. Auto Show.
Genesis GV70 & X Convertible Concept
The South Korean automaker Genesis unveiled two stunning cars at the LA Auto Show taking place in Malibu. Part of the showcasing is the stunning X Convertible Concept and Electrified GV70.
As per the automaker, the X Convertible Concept “is a design study and it’s a beautiful creation, one that embodies new ideas and suggests our design direction for the future. Pulling off a design feat like this is part of what makes Genesis unique.”
The US-spec version of the Electrified GV70 was unveiled for the first time at the show. Though the automaker didn’t reveal the specs or price, the brand promises “a spacious interior and refined performance with a host of technologies designed exclusively for electric vehicles."
Porsche Dakar
Porsche unveiled the 911 Dakar at the auto show which is a rally-bred version of the ongoing 911 Sports Car and is inspired by the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally-winning Porsche 953.
Limited to just 2,500 units, the 911 Dakar features a rugged front fascia, more ground clearance than the standard 911, and all-terrain tyres. Each unit will cost around $222,000 (approx RM 1,015,650).
2024 Fiat 500e
The Fiat 500e made its return to the market for the model year 2024. The car was redesigned for Europe back in 2020 and now is back with 319 km of range on a 42 kWh battery pack. The tiny car gets a tight backseat and rear-hinged door for easier access to the seat.
Also, part of the Fiat pack is bespoke versions from massive Italian designers like Bulgari, Armani, and Kartell.
2023 Toyota Prius
The 2023 Prius is widely different from all the previous-gen models. The user-friendly fuel-efficient Prius in its latest version is quite different. It gets new looks with a sharper nose, sloped rear window, tight waist, and wider stance.
In addition to the aesthetic, the car benefits from new power plants that hike performance. For instance, Prime’s pure electric range goes from 40 to 64 km. The 2.0-litre inline four-engine with a two-motor electric system pumps out 194 hp.
2024 Subaru Impreza
The five-door hatchback from Subaru, the 2024 Impreza made its debut at the 2022 L.A. Auto Show. The car is built on the updated version of the Subaru Global Platform and boosts 10% higher torsional rigidity and additional structural adhesive. Thus delivering better dynamic performance, a quieter cabin, and a smooth ride.
The car is offered in three variant options - Base, Sport, and new RS; all of which come standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of safety and driver assistance features.
2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6
At the 2022 L.A. show, Hyundai revealed the U.S. spec version of the 2023 Ioniq 6. Like the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 is offered in three drive/range configurations and similarly gets the same charging setup as the former.
The Ioniq 6 gets several first-time inclusions like a new navigation system with a charging station route planner (the car knows which charging station is in use or broken), over-the-air firmware update capability, and electric-Active Sound Design. The latter Hyundai says it “uses an acoustic design processor to provide unique driving sounds inside the cabin and the ability to set the volume.”
Toyota bZ Compact SUV concept
Sharing the stage with the new Prius hybrid lineup is Toyota’s new electric concept called the bZ Compact SUV.
The concept features a sleeker and sharper design with highlights like C-shaped DRLs above the headlights, hammerhead shark-like nose, creased bonnet, wedged bumper with a distinctive surface pattern, dynamic sloping roofline, steeply raked rear window, and more. The cabin reveals an ultra-modern look with a curved infotainment touchscreen.
VinFast VF 6 and VF 7
The Vietnamese EV startup WinFast came into the well-known L.A. Auto Show 2022 with two of its finest cars, the VF 6 and VF 7 compact SUVs.
Designed by Pininfarina and Torino Design, the two cars are offered in two variant options - Eco and Plus.
2023 Lucid Air Touring and Pure
Electric Vehicle startup Lucid has introduced two new affordable options at the 2022 L.A. Auto Show. Called the Air Pure and Touring, the two boats had an impressive range of 660 km and 684 km respectively.
While the all-wheel drive Pure will arrive first, the rear-wheel version will join the lineup in 2023.
The Touring is powered by a dual-motor, all-drive powertrain that can hit the 90 kmph mark in just 3.4 seconds.
Hyundai N Version 74
The N Version 74 came in as a surprise after the unveiling of the Ioniq 6. With its arrival, the hydrogen fuel cell hybrid made an in-person splash.
Inspired by the 1974 Hyundai Pony, the very first in-house car built by the automaker, the N Version 74 features bits from the Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed original.
