Land Rover Defender 110 Evolution
Land Rover Defender is the epitome of toughness, of ruggedness, of strength and most importantly of capability. This tough vehicle which assures a smooth ride in the city as well as in the wilderness was introduced to the world in 1948. This British SUV ride was then badged as “Land Rover One Ten” in 1983, and in 1984 the "Land Rover 90" was added. The numbers added to the name of this big-wheel represents the respective wheelbase in inches.
Production of the model now known as the Defender began in 1983 as the Land Rover 110. Thereafter, Land Rover Defender 110 has seen detail changes and improvements to its styling, interior and engine part. As a result of this gradual evolution process to Land Rover Defender 110, we can line up 3 generations of the vehicle. To which, recently, a special edition is launched in Malaysia as a tribute to the classic SUV which is set to cease production by the end of this year.
The initial launch years of this vehicle has seen it as a private recreational vehicle. The year 1986 saw improvements in engines to match the more advanced offerings by Japanese competitors. At the same time that the Diesel Turbo was introduced, the V8 engine was upgraded. Power was increased to 134 HP and SU carburettors replaced the Zenith models used on earlier V8s.

Evolved over 65 years, it is still completely recognisable. Land Rover Defender 110 retains its iconic outline. A full-sized spare tyre, white roof, unique Defender badging and Alphine lights became its identity features.
It is surely not the vehicle to rule for years as it fails to improve and doesn't make sense as a fashion statement to the auto market. It's outdated, but it will be rolling on years after most other cars have bitten the dust and we'll miss it anyway!
