GIIAS 2018 Day 1 - Major Launches

The Indonesian auto show, GIIAS 2018, has been an exciting event already and promises a lot more to come. The first day of the show has seen the grand revelations and debuts of many new cars and facelifts.

The first day of the event included facelifts mostly but did not miss out on concepts and new debuts. Here are some of the major inclusions that made the day for most of the automobile following in almost all of the ASEAN countries. And guess what, this short wrap-up would also be a build-up of what we can expect in the coming days.

The world debut of the new Honda Brio

The unveiled Brio is based on the Honda Small RS Concept that was a part of the debuts made at the IIMS (Indonesia International Motor Show) that took place in April. Aesthetically, it looks like a brand new version of the chubbier Brio that we have known thus far.

The power production under the hood will be managed by a 1.2-litre engine, which would be mated to either a CVT or a 5-speed manual.
The grand Navara-based 7-seater SUV
This big-size Terra SUV gained a lot of attention at the major auto show in Indonesia. The company would be making it available in both 2WD as well as the 4WD trims, where the latter would even be getting a rear differential lock.

What’s more? A high ground clearance of 225 mm is something many would like in a large SUV.

The Honda HR-V facelift

The Japanese company has debuted the facelifted version of the Honda HR-V at the GIIAS 2018 as a model that received a lot of cosmetic updates in almost all the departments. It would be offered in two engine trims, which would be the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre i-VTEC and the 1.8-litre that makes 139 PS of power and 169 Nm of torque.

Suzuki Jimny, the SUV with an amazing persona

The Suzuki Jimny had already caused a huge stir in the automobile industry after its world debut. This small little SUV has now reached the Indonesian shores for a showcase at the GIIAS 2018.

This little packet promises to be a complete offroader. The new generation model, built on the AWD mechanism and a ladder-frame build, is what would prove the company’s prowess to provide a power delivery at the lower rev range.

Suzuki Ertiga Sports, a sporty concept

The premiere automobile show, held on the Indonesian soil, has also seen the introduction of one of the many models Suzuki has been working on.

This new Ertiga Sport Concept proved to be one of the many show-stealers on the first media day. It is based on the upcoming generation of the standard model which is already on sale in the domestic market. However, it has a lot of external body kit-like pumped up designing elements and a reduced ground clearance.

Under the hood, it would be powered by the 1.5-litre engine that will also have the smart hybrid technology. The motor would be good enough to be making a maximum power of 104.7 PS along with a peak torque of 138 Nm. The transmission duties will be handled by the same setup as the standard, that is, a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.

The special edition of the Datsun GO

Datsun, a sub-brand of Nissan, has uncovered the special GO-Live edition of the affordable GO hatchback. Also, it has gone up for pre-bookings in the country at a price of IDR 135M.

The special Datsun Go gets a very attractive paint job, like a base grey paint along with yellow skirtings. Under the hood, it would be powered by a small 1.2-litre engine which would be capable of churning out a maximum power of 78 PS. The power will be sent down to the wheels via a CVT gearbox.

Suzuki brings the Strong Hybrid Swift in Indonesia

The new generation of the Suzuki Swift has been a wonderful introduction from the Japanese automaker. With this introduction back in place, the Swift Strong Hybrid at the Indonesian auto show.

This new model is the same as the Swift Hybrid that was launched at the company’s home country back in 2017. It is powered by a 1.2-litre VVT engine which is capable of making a maximum power of 91 PS. Moreover, there is a 10 kW electric motor up at the duty as well.

The GIIAS 2018 has already been a major attraction among the automobile followers in the ASEAN countries and beyond. Hence, considering that this is just the beginning of something great, we can just wait with bated breaths and watch the excitement unfolding with every passing day.
