The Ferrari 296 GTB's price starts from RM 1.228 million before duties and customisation optionsHow powerful is the Ferrari 296 GTB?
The Ferrari 296 GTB produces a combined 830 PS and 740 Nm of torqueHere to succeed the F8 Tributo, The main highlight of the 296 GTB here is that it is Ferrari’s first road-legal car to be powered by a V6 engine, unlike all of its predecessors that came with either a V8 or V12.
The 296 GTB is also Ferrari’s second mass-produced Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) model after the SF90 Stradale range, marking the beginning of the brand’s electrified era in Malaysia.
That being said, the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine here produces 663 PS and a maximum torque of 740 Nm.
All that power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via an eight-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox which is also found in a few other models like the SF90 Stradale and the Portofino.
Also part of the powertrain package is an electric motor that produces another 167 PS which brings the combined system output to 830 PS and 740 Nm, enabling the 296 GTB to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds while hitting a top speed of more than 330 km/h.
When fully charged, the 296 GTB can cover up to 25 km in full electric mode known as the eDrive mode in the 296 GTB, at speeds of up to 130 km/h.
In case you’re wondering how long it will take to fully charge the 7.45 kWh battery, it takes about three hours.
Design-wise, the 296 GTB’s styling is heavily inspired by the 1963 Ferrari 250 LM especially at the rear half of the car.
The front end looks rather simple, with the only highlights being the LED headlights, carbon fibre lip, and a funky diffuser in the middle.
On the contrary, the rear end has so much going on, beginning with the active spoiler inspired by the LaFerrari which creates 350 kg of downforce, followed by the sleek LED lights, and the aforementioned exhaust pipe.
Measuring 4,565 mm long with a 2,600 mm-long wheelbase, the 296 GTB is the most compact Berlinetta model to roll out of Maranello.
Thanks to the new architecture, the folks at Ferrari were able to develop a more linear exhaust which is situated in the upper half of the engine compartment, giving it a unique and fierce look.
Moving into the cabin, the 296 GTB comes with a fully digital instrument panel, digital air cond control, and a display on the passenger’s side showing information about the infotainment system.
The minimalist theme of the exterior also continues inside as you can see on the central control panel where all you can do is select the gear and control the windows.
The seats are wrapped in premium Italian leather with contrasting red stitching which also continues on the door trim and other parts in the cockpit.
