Chery Omoda E5: Detailed in images

It was only last week that Chery Malaysia launched its all-new electric car in the local market, the Omoda E5. The electric version of the already existing Omoda 5 SUV, the E5 is priced at RM 146,000 (on-the-road without insurance). While its first batch will be imported from China (CBU); its local assembly will begin in Q2 2024, making it the first Chinese CKD electric car in the country.

While we have already discussed Omoda E5’s key highlights in detail, today we’ll be inspecting the car inch-by-inch via the help of images.

Elegant Exterior

The Omoda E5 is crafted with an eye for modern elegance, the EV’s outer shell is more than a vision into the future. It makes a bold statement that things are changing on the mobility front. The EV has been meticulously designed to captivate and command attention with elements like the signature front grille, seamlessly integrated lighting along many more elements.

Active grille

The car’s front end features an active grille shutter that operates (opens/closes) depending on the EV motor temperatures and aerodynamic requirements.

Dimensions

The Omoda E5 features the same dimensions as the ICE Omoda 5. However, compared to the BYD Atto 3, the EV measures less in all aspects by 35 mm, 45 mm, and 90 mm (length, width, and 90 mm).

Exterior Lighting units

 

The all-new Chery EV benefits from stylish lighting units including LED Daytime Running lights that sit on top of full LED high beam/low beam with cornering light system. At the rear are present sleek and stylish LED rear lamps and center high center-mounted stop lights. Also, the outer rear view mirror is integrated with turn indicators.

Captivating exterior hues

The all-new Chery EV is offered in an array of captivating colors that is a true expression of the owner’s style and taste. Part of the car’s color kit is Khaki White, Aqua Green, Phantom Grey, and Dark Black.

Cutting-edge cabin comfort

The Omoda E5 offers a spacious cabin that is wrapped in premium materials. Chery is offering the E5 cabin in two striking tones, more futuristic blue & beige and classic black.

Interactive dashboard

The EVs cabin features an interactive dashboard that Chery markets as a 24.6-inch curved 2K HD dual screen which includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen.
The latter is powered by a Qualcomm 8155 system on chip (SoC) and includes support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (wireless).

Wireless charger

The cabin features a 50W wireless charger that comes with a cooling function that in addition to charging your phone keeps it cool.

Safety at its best

Chery calls the Omoda E5 EV ‘heaven of safety’ on wheels. It packs a driver assistance system (ADAS) acting as a guardian angel that watches your back with features like automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. Every aspect of the EV from design to sensors, prioritizes the protection and well-being of the people inside.

Powerful powertrain

The Omoda E5 offers a full range of motion, impressive range, and instantaneous acceleration thanks to its 61 kWh lithium iron battery (from BYD) offering maximum power output of 150 kW and maximum torque of 340 Nm. This setup allows the EV to go from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.6 seconds and attain a top speed of 172 kmph.

Charging capability

The ‘e-Futur Ranger’ as Chery calls it comes with a three-phase onboard AC charger with a max rate of up to 9.9 kW. Also, part of the kit is a DC fast charger with a max rate of 80 kW; it gets the battery from 30 to% 100% SoC in 28 minutes.

Vehicle-to-load function

The car can deliver up to 3.3 kW of power to electric appliances and devices with its vehicle-to-load function.
