The top-selling car in Malaysia is the Perodua Bezza. A total of 81,946 units of this compact sedan have been registered so far this year and with two months remaining, it is likely to reach the 100,000 mark on its own.
First launched back in 2016, the Bezza is an A-segment sedan that received a makeover in early 2020, taking its fanbase to the next level. The car is offered in four variants - G MT, G AT, X, and AV, with a price ranging from RM 34,580 to RM 49,980. It comes in two powertrain options - a 1.0-litre three-cylinder VVT-i and a 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
Perodua Axia
Next on the best-selling car models list is the Perodua Axia. The automaker sold a total of 73,185 units of this affordable, compact, and fuel-efficient hatchback in the first ten months of 2024.
First introduced in 2014, the Perodua Axia is an A-segment hatchback that received a generation upgrade in February 2023. The second-gen Axia comes in five trims - E, G, X, SE, and AV, priced between RM 22,000 and RM 49,500. All variants are powered by a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine generating a maximum power of 67 hp and a peak torque of 91 Nm.
Perodua Myvi
It’s no surprise that the third best-selling car in Malaysia is also a Perodua model i.e. Myvi. Perodua has delivered a total of 59,736 Myvis till the end of October 2024.
The Myvi is the top-selling B-segment hatchback in the country, first introduced in 2016. It received a few significant upgrades in late 2021, making it perfect for urban driving. The Myvi is offered in four variants - G, X, H, and AV, priced between RM 46,500 and RM 59,900. It comes in two engine options - a 95 PS/121 Nm 1.3-litre unit and a 103 PS/137 Nm 1.5-litre unit.
Proton Saga
The Proton Saga is also a strong contender in the Malaysian market, ranking fourth in the top-selling cars list with a sales figure of 58,455 units.
Proton introduced the Saga as Malaysia’s first homegrown vehicle back in 1985. And, now after almost 40 years, this B-segment sedan continues to be a dominant player in the Malaysian sedan market. This national icon has gone through three generations, with upgrades in safety, design, performance, and technology.
Proton offers the Saga in four variants - Standard MT, Standard AT, Premium AT, and Premium S AT, all powered by a 1.3-litre four-cylinder VVT engine generating 95 PS and 120 Nm of torque. The price begins at RM 34,800 and goes all the way up to RM 44,800.
Perodua Alza
Coming back to Perodua! Yes, the next top-selling car in Malaysia is yet another Perodua model – the Alza. This is the best-selling 7-seater family MPV in the country that was first introduced in 2009. Later in 2022, Perodua launched the second-gen Alza as a versatile, spacious, and well-equipped SUV based on a new platform.
The Alza is offered in three variants - X, H, and AV, all running on a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a D-CVT gearbox. The price ranges from RM 62,500 to RM 75,500. In the first ten months of the year, a total of 35,841 Alzas were registered in Malaysia.
Perodua Ativa
The list of the best-selling cars in Malaysia is dominated by Perodua models, as on the next spot we have the Perodua Ativa with a total year-to-date sales of 30,355.
This is a relatively new Perodua model launched in 2021 with several Perodua-first features. It is a compact SUV available in three variants - X, H, and AV, priced between RM 62,500 and RM 73,400. All the trims come equipped with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 98 PS of maximum power and 140 Nm of torque.
Toyota Vios
Toyota is the third top-selling brand in Malaysia, after Perodua and Proton. And, the Vios is its best-selling model here with a total deliveries of 22,905 units made between January to October 2024.
The ongoing version of the Vios was launched in March last year. The latest model underpins a new Daihatsu New Global Architecture platform and features significant styling and tech upgrades. It is offered in two versions - E and G, priced at RM 89,600 and RM 96,000, respectively. Both variants incorporate a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated Dual-VVT-i engine mated to a CVT gearbox.
Honda City
The Toyota Vios' direct rival, the Honda City, follows closely with a total sales of 22,757 units so far this year. Well, the difference in their sales figures is quite narrow, making it hard to say which will come out on top by year-end.
The facelift version of the fifth-gen Honda City made its way to Malaysia last year. It is offered in five variants - S, E, V, RS, and e:HEV RS, priced between RM 89,600 and RM 95,500. The automaker also launched a special-edition City earlier this year. Powertrain options include - a 121 PS/145 Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated and an i-MMD hybrid unit with the same mill paired with two electric motors and an e-CVT gearbox.
Toyota Hilux
The Toyota Hilux continues to dominate the pickup truck segment in Malaysia with a year-to-date total sales of 19,917 units. This iconic model received a subtle upgrade in the local market earlier this year.
The Hilux comes in six different versions loaded with different powertrains and features. These include - Single Cab 2.4, 2.4G, 2.4E, 2.4V, 2.8 Rogue, and 2.8 GR-Sport; the price ranges from RM 103,880 to RM 169,080.
Proton X50
Malaysia’s beloved SUV, the Proton X50, also holds a position in the top 10 cars in Malaysia. A total of 18,513 units of this B-segment SUV have been sold so far in 2024.
The Proton X50 is offered in four variants - Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship, powered by a 1.5-litre mill available in two different forms - direct-injected and port-injected. The price begins at RM 86,300 and goes all the way to RM 113,300.
