2024 BMW i5 eDrive40: All you need to know

Malaysia now has the updated version of the BMW i5 EV that was launched only four months ago. Called the all-new 2024 BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport, the executive electric sedan has had its specs sheet revised with some noticeable inclusions.

2024 BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport for Malaysia benefits from following updates -

• The previous 11 kW chargers is replaced by a 22 kW AC charging unit
• 21-inch Style 954M wheels are replaced by smaller 20-inch Style 939M united
• Cabin now gets a new color option called, Leather Merino Silverstone
• The EV is now offered in 4 new exterior color options namely, Sophisto Grey Metallic, Oxide Grey Metallic, Cape York Green Metallic, and Fire Red Metallic.

The new and updated version of the BMW electric sedan is more expensive than the previous gen model. However, the bump is of RM 300 only, which puts RM 399,800 on the car’s retail price tag (on-the-road without insurance). With the service and repair package (five-year warranty and six-year maintenance) included, the total price jumps to RM 420,100.

Each purchase is accompanied by a standard two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

Powering the 2024 BMW i5 eDrive40 is a single rear-mounted motor that churns out a maximum power output of 313 PS along with a peak torque of 400 Nm. These figures can be boosted to 340 PS and 430 Nm with the My Mode Sport and Sport Boost/Launch Control function engaged.

The above-mentioned powertrain configuration allows the car to complete a century sprint in just 6.0 seconds and attain a top speed of 193 kmph. Interestingly BMW also offers a range of iconic sounds crafted by renowned composer Hanx Zimmer.

As for range, the car's 83.9 kWh battery offers a range of up to 582 km. BMW has also integrated the car with a Max range function which enhances the range by 25%. How? By limiting the speed, power, and deactivating comfortable option.

The BMW EV comes with a 83.9 kWh battery placed in the floor pan, it can be charged via an AC wallbox charger at 11 kW that takes eight hours and 15 minutes for 0-100% SoC. Also present is DC fast charging at max rate of 205 kW that takes the battery from 10-80% SOC in 34 minutes.

The BMW i5 eDrive40 has always been an eye-catching car with its dimensions fully supporting its stature. For instance, the three-box sedan is 5,060 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,515 mm tall. The wheelbases measure 2,995 mm.

As for the cabin, in addition to offering a spacious cabin with sufficient leg and knee room, the car comes with a generous boot space at 490-liters.
